Complete derth of it round hereπŸ€”πŸ’β€β™€οΈ really don't want to resort to buying it online. Does anyone know if their cocao is just as good please?

Waitrose sells it, at least my little local one does (West London).

ireallyloveyourtigerfeet · 15/11/2023 16:26

Same problem in Exeter, can't get it anywhere. Have resorted to buying the Starbucks tin, it's a close second IMO

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 15/11/2023 16:37

I can't get it at all. I can confirm that Bourneville cocoa is not as good.

Deathraystare · 15/11/2023 17:55

Oops Sorry! I thought you meant the chocolate bars! However think Waitrose do the drinking chocolate too.

EversoDisorganised · 15/11/2023 18:02

Just looked in Waitrose having seen this thread earlier, they had some.

Let us know how you get on, I can't help feeling they are discontinuing it and are just running the stocks down

SisyphusDad · 15/11/2023 23:08

My local - quite small - Waitrose had been out of stock for a few weeks. Then on Monday they had some stock. I say 'had'.

wavingfuriously · 15/11/2023 23:15

@ireallyloveyourtigerfeet oh no😳

I used to love their coco. Not seen it in years.

NotLactoseFree · 16/11/2023 13:03

Nope, we haven't been able to buy it for a while. Neither our local Waitrose or Sainsbury's - both of which were reliable - or online at Waitrose. I wasn't ready to commit to the 12 tubs you have to buy on Amazon (and haven't checked if they're still around).

But DD has now announced that actually, she prefers the cocoa and that she does not require me to keep trying to source the hot chocolate! The cocoa is excellent - very chocolatey - it's just inevitably more of a faff to make obviously.

I also wonder if they're not making it any more - the price has gone through the roof recently so possibly they have lost customers who aren't willing to pay? And it's just not economical for them to do it any more?

wavingfuriously · 16/11/2023 16:51

@NotLactoseFree yes agree, used to be Β£3 not so long ago now Β£5.25 ! Thanks for info re their cocoaπŸ‘ been such a long time since last made that!

So.... spotted some in a small waitrose yesterday so bought it for convenience. Β£5.25 and dd brought it to me to show me .... It's only just over half full.

Definitely sticking with cocoa!!!!

Between dd being lactose intolerant and the price, hot chocolate is becoming less likely a treat all the time!!! The cheaper ones are not as nice and mostly have milk powder in them.

wavingfuriously · 23/11/2023 18:37

so , picked up several g&b hot chocolate in sainsbury today, not seen for months but flying off the shelves! updated label 🏷
So there's hopeπŸ˜‰

Interesting. Is it full? And how much was it? The half full one we got was the old branding/packaging..

determinedtomakethiswork · 24/11/2023 00:07

I bought some the other day from Asda, but I noticed that it was Β£5 something now. Pretty certain it used to be Β£3.50.

wavingfuriously · 24/11/2023 10:29

@NotLactoseFree haven't opened yet as going to use in order..have you complained? I would..

You know, I'm so used to us being screwed by retailers these days, it didn't even occur to me. Probably too late now - DD has been snaffling it! Grin

I think it's gone - possibly got so expensive that they just couldn't sell enough (also, I swear, there was less and less inside the 'can' too). Our local Sainsbury's used to stock it, but recently they often didn't have any, and now there's not even a space for it on the shelf. Our 'local' Waitrose (40 minutes walk/bus away) was my fallback, but they don't seem to stock it any more either. And my wife reports that the "proper" Waitrose, near where she works in London, no longer stocks it either.

I checked the ingredients on the other hot chocolates available in Sainsbury's, and the nearest was Twining's "Swiss" Chocolate Drink - roughly the same percentage of sugar and cocoa, and the only other one with actual chocolate in it. I can't stand hot chocolate, so I can't tell you if they taste the same (the kids drink it without protest - or particular enthusiasm - and rate it as 'OK'), but it definitely doesn't 'cook' the same. We make ours with three heaped teaspoons in a mug of milk, heated in the microwave for 90 seconds, and the old G&B's was a stubborn bugger that took many stirs to get it to dissolve (and, even then, solid lumps would still sometimes bubble up!), but the Twinings dissolves completely without needing to be stirred. I've no idea if this is a good thing or not, but it feels 'wrong' to me - even though it's a lot easier to make!
