Gingerbread house without the ginger?

We're having young relatives to stay for a couple of days in December while their parents are away. I'd love to make a gingerbread house with them from scratch as my DC used to love making them. Unfortunately one of them doesn't like ginger. I was thinking of replacing it with cinnamon.
a) if I do, would I just replace the ginger with the same amount of cinnamon, or more or less?
b) any other suggestions? Guess I could leave it plain but would like to add festive flavours.

Can you make a lemon flavour "shortbread". If a child doesn't like ground ginger, I'm not sure they'd like cinnamon.

Sorry, I should have said in the OP.... I know they like cinnamon. But lemon is a good shout thank you.

You can make the dough and just not add the ginger, it still has a caramelly type flavour, if you want to add cinnamon I'd use less than the ginger as it's pretty strong too. I often make gingerbread with very little actual ginger in it as a lot of kids don't like it I find, like the idea of gingerbread just not the taste!

the link doesn't seem to work? Is it one where you pour melted chocolate into the mould? I was thinking actually making the dough would pass more time and they've enjoyed baking. before, but likely to be a good idea for someone else reading this thread so thanks for the idea.

Thanks, I was undecided whether cinnamon would be stronger than ginger. I like the lemon idea above, could add just a little cinnamon for extra flavour.

Just miss out the ginger. Some recipes have a small amount of cinnamon in anyway, so use that as a guide for the amount of cinnamon to add if you want to.
Edited to say I think I’d half the amount of cinnamon actually. In recipes it looks to be same amount of ginger and cinnamon so I’d use 1/2 or 1/4 the amount of cinnamon as ginger in the recipe, just to give it a bit of something. You could add a tiny bit of allspice too.

I think reducing/removing the ginger is a good idea. Part of the benefit of gingerbread is that it is sturdy enough to make a house out of, whereas a lot of other biscuits won't be.

Why not experiment before hand? Mix up enough dough for some "gingerbread" men or biscuits, divide up the dough into sections and try flavouring each differently. Stamp out into biscuit shapes and cook. Then see which you like best.

I don't like gingerbread either!

We made a Smaug Dragon from the same recipe but with a little bit less cinnamon and it was great.
