Can I use an air fryer for roasting tin recipes?

I love the Rukmini Iyer roasting tin recipes but am on my own and often only need to do half portions so putting the oven on is annoying and expensive.

If I get an air fryer is it a replacement? It looks like it's got a grill thing in it. So could I cook a tagine type thing in it? Something wet? Rice with stock, spices, veg and chicken on top. All in one Dahl. One pot curry with salmon fillets on top? Feta and egg bake made with a batter?

Or does it not really work like that?
I don't cook frozen breaded foods so not so fussed about the 'crispy' element.

Bump for the Saturday morning lot but having done more googling I think the answer is no....

I have a slow cooker but it obviously doesn't brown things

Is it just an air fryer or a multi-cooker like a Ninja? I think if it is too wet it might be a problem if it is just an air fryer.

I'm sorry, I don't know what a roasting tin is.

An air fryer is simply a fan oven. It's smaller and more powerful than a normal oven so it's quicker to heat and you can knock down the time and temperature of regular cooking.

You can cook wet things in it - they're usually pretty easy to clean too. I wouldn't try and do a stew in mine but I have seen curries and lasagnes being made in them.

Air Fryer is a bit of a misnomer. It's basically a small fan oven, but much cheaper than using an oven to cook. It heats up quickly, & oven temp & timing can both be reduced. So traybakes are good.
It's not so good with liquids, as the fan can make it fly - unless you put a lid on the dish.
BTW, my slow cooker can go in the oven or under the grill to brown, perhaps your one can ?

Thanks all. I haven't bought one yet. I guess the easiest way of explaining what I mean is could I do a dish with wet stuff in it - like baked chicken breasts in a tomatoey wet sauce! Something you'd usually cook in a dish in the oven. Or a stew type thing. Maybe I need to look at some different types. A mini oven is what I want

We have an older version of this https://www.argos.co.uk/product/1247477 and I can do those kinds of things, I have Pyrex dishes that fit in and I use those.

How about a halogen oven.
My sister lives alone and uses hers for everything. I don't think she has put the oven on in years.

You can cook anything in an airfryer that you can cook in an oven. So roaming tin recipes, wet recipes are all fine. Just make sure that the airfryer can take the dishes you plan to.use.

Sorry - roasting tin is a roasting tin. Can’t really be called anything else

@Wolvesart In the context of " Rukmini Iyer roasting tin recipe" I don't know what OP means, but I was trying to kindly answer her question about air fryers.

Not sure why you feel you need to criticise?

Desolatewardrobe · 11/11/2023 12:18

Roasting Tin refers to a series of (excellent) one pot recipe cook books, Rukmini being the author.
