Steak & mushroom Pie for dinner party, sides etc?

I know it's not exactly your standard dinner party food but it has been requested and I'm happy to oblige.
I usually just do mash and peas, I've already promised mash but what other veg should I serve? I was just going to do steamed carrots, broccoli and cabbage but that seems a bit boring. Any ideas?

Do I need a starter and I'm useless at thinking of dessert so any advice on that would be helpful.

mash with broccoli & carrots seems perfect to me.

Cauliflower cheese unless you’re serving extra gravy.

Roasted veg e.g. courgettes & carrots.

What about red cabbage cooked with apple, onions, some chutney and splash of vinegar.

Roasted carrots with honey and thyme

Broccoli is also nice roasted with a sprinkle of salt and chilli flakes

Mustard mash would go nicely

Steak pie
mash
roast carrots/parsnips with honey

that’s it!

Roasted Brussels sprouts are delicious. Just with oil salt and pepper. I also love cabbage cooked with garlic and butter.

Another vote for red cabbage. We have a balsamic red cabbage with steak pie

Thanks everyone, the couple I'm cooking for have had a really tough time the past year with losing a child so I just want it to be perfect for them. I know it won't take away the pain of course but just want them to feel some comfort and put their feet up, they're here for a few days but we're eating out one night.

There will be lots of drinks and hearty food. I think I'll skip a starter and just do nibbles and for dessert I will do their favourite.

I'm going to go with honey & thyme roasted carrots, the red cabbage recipe and broccoli. My mash always has horseradish and mustard in it and they are big fans of it so will do that.

The couple I am cooking for always make the best cauliflower cheese and I simply cannot compete as much as I love it. I will be serving lots of extra gravy! I've also added some brussel sprouts to my shopping list because I now really fancy them 🤤. Thank you all again.

I see you've already decided, was going to suggest Delia's parmesan parsnips

I always make them at Christmas and forget to make them other times. Had them recently with a pie and they went really well.

If you are doing a braised red cabbage, make lots and freeze some for Christmas dinner.

Hope you have a lovely evening, I'm sure your friends will appreciate it.
