Braised steak - how to make into a steak and potato pie

So I braised some steak with onions and gravy in the oven. The meat is fall apart tender if I do say so myself 😄

Now what I want to make is a steak and potato pie - but how do I add the potatoes to the pie? Do I chop them into cubes with a (new) onion, fry lightly then mix with the meat and gravy, then put as filling into the pie?

I will drain the gravy off the steak before I add to the pie crust and reserve for pouring.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

I would have put them in the gravy with the meat for the last bit of its cooking time.
I wouldn’t fry as they would be greasy. I’d probably just dice and boil and drain now then mix them in with the gravy and meat to coat them before lifting the meat and pots out with a slotted spoon to put in the pie dish.

I’d slice them quite thinly and layer in the pie with the steak and onions and gravy. They’ll cook reasonably quickly so the steak won’t overcook.

Meat and ‘tater pie - lovely. The BBC has a recipe which says to put the potatoes on the pie mix after cooking the former and before cooking.

I braise on the hob, quicker/cheaper. Use the cheapest cuts,it's all so expensive now days. Toss the steak chunks in seasoned flour. Little oil in the pan, toss around to seal, then add gravy and braise. Meanwhile very slightly cook potato chunks, (microwave) everything then in pie

I'd cube the potatoes, par boil in salted water or water with a stock cube in and then assemble together with the braised steak mix in the pie.

actually, that's not true. I'd sack off the cubed potatoes completely, make a steak pie and eat it with homemade chips.
