Can I add beans to this soup recipe?

Obviously I 'can' add beans to it so my question should really be, will it be tasty if I add beans to it?😊

The recipe is roasted butternut squash and red onion blended with veg stock. (It's simple and delicious.)
I need to up my protein intake so will ideally add some beans to it.

Yes or no?

TIA

Yes, it'll be lovely. I'd add something like haricot beans to that. If you want to notice the beans, just put them in and warm through after blending, but otherwise they don't have a strong flavour so you could just blend some in and you probably won't even notice they're there.

I'd add tinned cannelini beans and blend it all.

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/10/2023 12:05

As above I'd use a white bean like cannelini or butter beans. I often do this.

WeirdPookah · 16/10/2023 12:19

If you blend them completely smooth they add a lovely warming thickness. Choose a mild on as PP's said, haricot, cannellini or butterbeans.

I made a cauliflower soup and blended in a tin of butter beans, really nice.

NunsKnickers · 16/10/2023 12:20

I would also suggest cannellini beans. It will be delicious!

AdaColeman · 16/10/2023 12:29

Beans won't add much flavour to your soup, but they will add interest and texture. I'd add tinned haricots verts after you've blended the basic soup, then you will have a colour contrast of green beans in a yellow soup, or perhaps try tinned red kidney beans!

Scampuss · 16/10/2023 12:40

I'd probably opt for red lentils rather than beans.

toastofthetown · 16/10/2023 16:39

I often blend in a tin of white beans to soup to up the protein. It slightly thickens and adds creaminess at the same time.

slug · 16/10/2023 16:40

I make something similar with red lentils added. They don't take long to cook either.

Butter beans, delicious! I have recently started adding white beans to pasta dishes too, to add an extra bit of texture and protein.

Cannellini beans. Tip half tin in, and roughly mash the rest into a purée and add. Delicious.

DuranNotSpandeau · 16/10/2023 18:15

Sounds delicious, and the cauli one. Definitely need to ditch my salad for lunch and start on soups now!

DuranNotSpandeau · 16/10/2023 18:16

Not helpful answer! Yes I'd add a creamy one to that, or if you wanted to give it a spicy flavour add some chilli and cumin with kidney beans?

SaryMhelley · 16/10/2023 18:18

cannellini beans are a new fave in this house.

this lady has some fab bean recipes (more on her TikTok) and some are ready in 10 mins. Filling and nutritious.

Sincere apologies for this tardy response.

I did as suggested and added blended butter beans and the soup is just that little bit more delicious than it was before 😃

And thank you for the link to carolefood. I'm making one of her recipes tomorrow.
