I want to make my own steak pie, never done it before.

Anybody got any recipes on how to make the filling? Which type of steak to use? Do I use slow cooker or oven?

Thanks!

i make beef stew in the slow cooker, cool it and then put bought puff pastry on top and stick in oven for 30 mins. Cheap cuts of beef and either beer/red wine/stock and onions, stock cube, herbs and maybe bit of chutney or mustard. mushrooms if i have some, or other veg i want to get rid of.

when in doubt I look to Felicity Cloakes "how to make the perfect.." series. She recipes tests various recipes of the same dish, discusses what she felt worked, what she felt didn't, and at the end writes up her own perfect recipe based on what she learnt. I find the recipes reliable and the discussion interesting as you can then apply the findings to your own preferences. I haven't made it, but she does have one for steak and ale pie

I really like this one from Feed your Family for £20 a week. https://fyf20quid.co.uk/recipes/steak-pie-2/?amp

Super simple, not many ingredients but tastes fab. This is a staple in our house.

Crumble the Oxo in the flour and coat the beef in a zip lock bag. Brown then cover in water and cook for a while on very low or in the oven. I have done it in the slow cooker too and made enough for a few pies.

500 g stewing steak / diced beef
2 oxo cubes
2 tbsp flour
2 tbsp vegetable oil
500 g puff pastry
8 sausages (optional)
1 beaten egg
