Really fancy beef stew and mash. Does anyone have an easy fail safe recipe that your whole family like? Will put in the slow cooker at midday today, so hope 6-7 hrs is enough.

Thanks all!

Ooo I shall follow. Never found one I like.

Last one DH tried (and he's a very good cook) wasn't that great. Kids ate it reluctantly! Hopefully someone will come forth with one!

That could work! I'm home so could prep it and get it in the oven. Looks simple too :)

I'd look for a specific slow cooker recipe because I tend to go by eye for amounts on the hob, which I don't feel comfortable risking in the slow cooker!

Found this one, not tried it myself:

Slow cooker beef stew recipe | BBC Good Food

Cook braising steak in the slow cooker for really tender meat. Add button mushrooms or smoked paprika for extra flavour – it will be an instant family favourite.

This is delicious but I haven’t ever made it using a slow cooker.

Kids devoured this - thank you so much for linking it! Absolutely loved it.

Do you have any other firm favourites, as nice as this? If you get time, please share :)

for my quick stew which is gorgeous I chop up braising steak ( or you can buy It chopped) chop a carrot up, chop an onion up, chop some mushrooms (all chunky) put it all in the slow cooker, add a bottle of real ale or stout, fill up that empty bottle half way with water and add it in (basically nearly cover every with liquid) pop in two bay leaves and put the lid on, turn to slow and let it cook for 6 hours. You can add more veg and herbs but we don’t

After 6 hours thicken the liquid with gravy salts ( or however you make gravy thick) add peas, and cook on high for another hour!

I also make up some dumplings by using dumpling mix and add to the slow cooker after I’ve thicken the sauce

My recipe is so easy - 2 sachets of beef casserole mix (either Schwartz, Morrisons or Asda etc) 800 ml water, beef stock pot, lean diced beef around 1kg and as much veg as you like. I normally use onion, carrots, leek & turnip. Cook for at least 6hrs on medium and just make sure there's enough liquid to cover the stew. At the end take a few tablespoons of the liquid and mix with a tablespoon of cornflower mix and add to stew to thicken. Add another stockpot if you think it needs more flavour 👌 cook for another 30 mins delish!

Brisket. Slice onions and cook until golden brown, dice celery and carrots, do the same, add some larger chunks of carrots and maybe mushrooms, streaky bacon, bay leaf, rosemary, thyme, salt and pepper. Cook again, add brisket, dollop of mustard, tablespoon of flour and cook that off, half a bottle of beer, some water, lid on and cook at gas 3 for a few hours. I sometimes stir in a tin of white beans or some such near the end. The brisket slices into lovely fall apart slices and is what is leftover is good on sandwiches.

I don't follow a recipe but mine always turns out well. It is all in the meat you use. I tend to use a mix of oxtail and ox cheek or short rib for best results. Start with a soffrito and cook gently in butter for 10 mins till soft then add a tablespoon of flour. Add the browned meat (i don't bother cutting into bits) plus 400ml guinness and the same of beef stock plus seasonings and any mustard/Worcestershire sauce or whatever. I don't however use a slow cooker I use a casserole dish and cook in oven for 4 hours on gas mark 2 but I assume it will work the same in a sc.

My go to is 50/50 red wine & beef stock. Can of tomato, 1-2 carrots, leek, onion and 2-3 peppers all cut to bitesize.
2 table spoons of sugar- gets rid if the acid from wine & tomatoes!

Fry season beef with some cornflower and tomato puree...

Place in slow cooker.

Add spices to taste:
Smoked Paprika - 2 teaspoons
Paprika - 2-3 teaspoons
Bay leave - 1 - 2
Whole glove - 1-3
Juniper berries - 3-4

Cooking for 6 +hours on low .... season if needed & serve with mash or crusty bread!

Beef from lidl...often lean
Tinned tomatoes
Stock cube
Dash of water
Garlic
Dried herbs
Onion...

leave on low all day when at work ....delicious!
