Would this be disgusting? Accidentally bought raw smoked salmon fillets...

My plan was to make chilli lime salmon with an avocado salsa for dinner. But by accident I bought 'lightly smoked' salmon fillets like the ones linked instead of the normal ones.

Would these taste okay with the chilli lime marinade and the avocado salsa as planned? I thought I could maybe add some chipotle paste in the marinade to go with the smoky flavour...

If this would be gross, does anyone have any suggestions for recipes that would taste nice with these sort of salmon fillets?

It will be fine - the smoke is usually very light. Adding lime and chilli to them should work really well.

You can eat the fillets raw but it’s not advisable as there can be parasites that can cause harm to some folks. Personally I’d not.

Janieforever · 14/09/2023 12:18

Sorry maybe I’ve misunderstood, you intend to cook them?

Once cooked it'll be lovely, especially with the lime- just watch the amount of salt you add.

The smoked taste is quite mild as I remember, so the Chipotle would win over if used heavy handed, just a touch would be amazing.

I'm hungry now!

Sorry - I also assumed you were going to cook them

Thanks!

What a rip off Waitrose is.
Lidl sell those lightly smoke salmon fillets for £4.49 vs Waitrose at £8.20, that's 82% more expensive.

I would not eat them raw as they are skin on. Crispy baked salmon skin is the best! With chili lime marinade & avocado salsa sounds lovely.

Thanks everyone! I do definitely intend to cook them, and I bought them from Lidl but couldn't find them on the Lidl website so just picked a similar thing 😂

I'm excited to make them now, really appreciate all the tips

They will be utterly delectable!

Baked for a very short time, horseradish cream, small potatoes ( Wednesday night supper quite often)

Lightly smoked salmon fillets are far superior, I recommend the M&S ones. Yum 😋
