Ice block and cool bag?

Sommerled · 13/09/2023 19:30

I just take a sandwich or salad in a small cool bag with ice blocks, always fine.

I make lunches for my teens that stay in their bags till lunchtime. I make things like tuna or chicken salad wraps, tuna pasta, cheese and ham rolls. They have freezer blocks in their lunchboxes. Or soup, rice and curry or chilli etc, in their hot Thermos flasks.

I prefer to keep any lunch out of the fridge for the morning as I hate straight from the fridge cold food. Most things last fine.

You need a good flask and take in hot food (leftovers).

Heat the flask in the morning with boiling water (while you have breakfast). Then heat up your food as hot as you can (wet food works best to hold the heat) before you put it in the flask.

Even leftover roast dinner works if you pre-chop it and fill in the 'cracks' with hot gravy.

Yep! The Thermos one is excellent!
Either leftovers, or those Mug Shots work well too!

I’ve just bought a lunchbox with an ice block compartment in the lid, it keeps my food cold til lunch.

I make a sandwich, either cheddar cheese, or philadelphia or peanut butter. Make it before work using frozen brown bread , store it in a flat sistema sandwich box

Clymene · 13/09/2023 21:10

Sandwich. Like school children do who have a packed lunch every day.

StoatofDisarray · 13/09/2023 21:15

I take a wide-mouthed thermos with soup or stew in it in the winter. My pea and ham is the stuff of legend.

Following! What great ideas

BananaPie · 13/09/2023 21:24

Surely nothing is actually going to spoil in your bag for 4 hours unless you are somewhere really warm?

This. I never put my lunch in the fridge at work. Wouldn’t cross my mind to use a cool bag. A sandwich, pitta or wrap: salad: quiche: frittata

SM4713 · 13/09/2023 21:27

I too have a wide mouthed thermos. I might put in warmed chicken drumsticks that I've coated in something yummy in there. A stew, soup or fried rice, stir fry or a pasta.

Overthinkingperhaps · 14/09/2023 20:33

I have a lunch box that heats food up.
I'm taking lasagne tomorrow with a salad.

I wouldn't worry too much about the keeping it cool.
