Courgette cake without oil

Maggiethecat · 05/09/2023 22:27

Made courgette/lime cake yesterday using oil (all the recipes seem to use oil instead of butter)
The smell/taste of the cold pressed rapeseed oil that I used is too strong for me although I can tell that otherwise the cake would be lovely.

This oil in chocolate cake is fabulous by the way.

Anyone have an alternative recipe?

Rapeseed oil has a strong taste, imo - try substituting sunflower oil, which is quite bland.

Why don't you just substitute it for a more neutral oil? There's no need for a different recipe if it would be nice otherwise. Cold pressed rapeseed is too strong for baking, like a pp I usually use sunflower oil.

Agree with this. Baking recipes with oil normally specify a flavourless oil and you won't get the same result with butter

Make it with vegetable oil, sunflower or corn oil and you won't taste it.

Right!!
funny thing is that I didn’t have enough rapeseed oil and had to top up with sunflower oil.
