We sometimes buy a couple of mains from the chinese but use cheap microwave rice at home. Our local charges £4 so it does add up.

Yes that’s a thought Naan and Rice has gone up a lot! I generally microwave brown rice to have with homemade (from scratch) curries

If we get an actual takeaway we make it last 2 days. Between me and DH we get a main each, share noodles or rice. When it arrives we plate it up onto 4 plates straight away.

Dominos do a collection deal here before 4pm which is £7 for a large pizza. If we are specifically craving that sort of pizza rather than a nice Co-Op one, I go and pick it up before 4pm for £7 and then just put it back in the oven for 10 mins when we eat it at 7-ish. Bag of wedges for a quid from the supermarket, garlic bread for a quid and we have a takeaway for less than a tenner!

I'm a big believer in pimping up pizza rather than getting take out. So even if I buy a pepperoni pizza for DS, I always add a little extra cheese and a drizzle of olive oil.

For me and DH I might buy a roasted veggie pizza then add bacon/salami/parma ham and some feta. Then extra cheese (ALWAYS extra cheese - they're so stingy otherwise) and some garlic oil.

I second the Spice Tailor curry options. Thanks for the reminder too as I haven't done one for a while!

Greshingham crispy duck pancake kit from the supermarket. Just buy spring onions and cucumber and do a veggie stirfry on the side.

Agree with the PPs who suggest making a takeaway last two nights and making your own rice.
Order one extra main course, and then either boil up a pan of basmati or make a pan of fried egg rice - so easy and quick to do, all you need is rice, eggs, spring onion and sesame oil. Saves an easy £3.

I read somewhere that when someone got a curry they asked for a separate portion of the sauce so they can freeze that and then defrost and add meat when they fancied another.

If you just want a cheaper takeaway, check out Too Good To Go, as some restaurants take part. No cooking required!! I know our local carvery does it, and DD2 is always getting yummy platters from Yo Sushi for next to nothing.

Buy an extra large portion of fish n chip chips. Eat half and freeze the other half. Reheat in air fryer. They are better than chip shop fresh. Serious.

Georgyporky · 05/09/2023 17:19

There's always too much sauce with curries, so I freeze it then add to fresh meat later.
Noodle portions are always huge, so they get frozen as well.
