Takeaway curry recommendations on what order.

Firstly I'll explain that 99.9% of time me and DH make our own BUT we occasionally want a night off from cooking. We have a good Indian TA near us but I always play safe and order same thing (chicken korma). I prefer mild or mild/moderate heat and spice. Can anyone recommend a favourite curry I could be brave and try!? Thanks.

Chicken tamarind. It's slightly citrusy with tomatoes and onions.

Sorry no suggestions but I am following as I usually play it safe and order a korma or a tikka masala.

Hi @shadypines
Try paneer, it's really nice xx

cushioncovers · 30/08/2023 21:58

Yes Paneer is nice as well it has cheese and potatoes in it.

Dansak is lovely

dearanon · 30/08/2023 22:00

Dopiaza is lovely

shadypines · 30/08/2023 22:12

Thanks everyone, that's really helpful. The annoying thing is I did order something different once and it was lovely (possibly a dopiaza or damask) but I didn't make a note of it.

Dansak even!

Dhansak is lovely but I have found different places make it to different strengths so worth checking if your local one classifies it as medium or hot. I also like a Chicken Balti or a Biryani.

dementedpixie · 30/08/2023 22:18

Dopiaza has lots of onions
dansak is made with Lentils
I like chicken kashmiri curry but not everywhere does it - the one I get has pineapple in it

chunkychunks · 30/08/2023 22:23

Not what you asked - but channah masala as a side is lovely, it's chickpeas in spices.

I tried some of a friends before and couldn't believe how nice it was, I would always get it if I were to get a curry now xx

Balti chicken and spinach is my go to every time, with a plain nan bread.

oooh just found the edit function, I had clumsy fingers and now can correct it. It has diverted my attention from the curry I NEED to have right now!

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 30/08/2023 22:28

How about a butter chicken or a Bhuna? Both are quite mild usually

User1287452 · 31/08/2023 09:35

Agree that anything with spinach is really good imo.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 31/08/2023 09:37

Railway lamb is amazing. Hearty food - lamb, potatoes, spinach, tomato.

shadypines · 31/08/2023 23:01

Butter chicken /chicken makhani
Salmon tikka
Saag aloo
Tarka Dahl
Aubergine (brinjal) bhaji (not the same as onion bhaji
Okra (bindi bhaji)
Tandoori roti or plain naan

shadypines · 02/09/2023 14:26

I chose a chicken dansak, it was very tasty, bit heavy on the salt but lovely consistency. I will be having again plus working my way through more of your suggestions. Grazie!

Epic!

I had chicken tikka saag and peshawari naan last night- yummy!

devildeepbluesea · 02/09/2023 17:55

Dhansak is my fave too. Although I’m also partial to a jalfrezi, a pathia and a vindaloo if I’m feeling brave. Best base gravy in the curry world imo!

MarshyMcMarshFace · 02/09/2023 17:56

Lamb pasanda.

Made with ground almonds in a rich sauce, quite creamy.

shadypines · 03/09/2023 10:54

Fancurrytastic!
