Stove top family recipes, please save me from the pasta?

Hi,
Please could you share your ideas for tasty stove-top family dinners? We've maxed out on pasta with sauce!

I'm on holiday with the family (3 teens, DH and me). We're self catering with basic supplies only (so no wok, no array of herbs and spices!)

Salads, meat or fish or veggie, anything with a bit of substance?

salmon steaks pan fried with boiled New potatoes and blanched green beans?

Can you get a rotisserie chicken and serve it cold with baguette and salad?

Buy some ready marinated or herbed and spiced meat from the supermarket- like from their BBQ or summer ranges. Eg kebabs, chicken breasts.

Grill or pan fry and serve with Pitta or flat breads, dips like tsatziki or hummus and salad.

A basic chicken & veg casserole, but try one of the packets that contain herbs & spices that will make it Chinese, Moroccan, Indian etc?

Chilli, curry

GingerIsBest · 09/08/2023 16:00

We mostly use the stove top. Curries are quite easy and with a paste/mix at the supermarket easy to do with limited flavourings.

Fry steaks or lamb chops with salads and new potatoes or bread.

Paella or risotto although I think I'd consider both of those a faff while on holiday.

Risotto, Frittata,Hainanese Chicken Rice (a huge favourite), White Chili Chicken (Not low-calorie), Chili Con Carne, Chowder.

Some brilliant suggestions, thank you so much. I'll be trying some of the more adventurous ones at home, but quesadilas, pan fried meat or fish, salads and bread, basic casseroles all fab.

I was feeling so stuck (and paralysed by not having my store cupboard ingredients, so few pans, and the hideous cost of groceries here). Thanks for the hand out of my rut!

IKEA meatballs. But the meatballs from ikea or iceland then it's basically a roux but with beef stock not milk and some creme fraiche mixed in at the end.

I put onion and peppers in as well.

This is easy, very cheap, doesn't take all that long to prepare or make, and tastes terrific. Serve with salad. As it's got potatoes in it you might not feel the need of bread too. You need one big frying pan, a good knife, a chopping board, and that's about it.

Vegetable & bean stew served with couscous.

Asian style stir fry with chicken or beef strips and quick cook noodles.

Spanish style fish soup with tomatoes and diced potatoes.
