Hi, I take lunch to work and I am trying to reduce the amount of bread I eat. Has anyone got any nice rice lunch ideas with chicken, prawns etc that I can take to work and eat either hot or cold. I have the use of a fridge and microwave. Thanks

I like those pouches of flavoured rice and stuff (lidl and aldi do good ones). I roast a load of veg on a Sunday with different spices, sometimes paprika, garlic powder, salt and pepper, oregano is a good mix then mix in with half a pouch. Make this for 3 two days and in the morning add a handful of rocket, cherry tomatoes and feta!

@timegoingtooquickly do you eat the rice cold from the packet if you are having as a salad, or do you heat and cool again? I'm never sure .

If you’re looking to reduce carbs then have a palm sized portion of rice or pasta - preferably wholemeal or lentil pasta or brown rice.

I then add either chicken breast chopped or boiled egg plus salad or veggies others have said. Sometimes I add stuffed olives.

If you really want more carbs but not bread with this then Ryvita with margarine is nice and fairly low calorie.

What I also like for lunch is eg if you have stir fry for dinner or spaghetti bolognese then portion that up and bring to work. Heat up. Add Parmesan in a small box for spaghetti bolognese.

One of my favourite rice lunch recipes is onigirazu. Just like a sandwich you can put anything you like in, and there are lots of ideas online for fillings.

Bento boxes are mostly based on rice so may be good to look at for ways to keep it interesting. Imamu room on Youtube is an amazing channel which she makes super creative bento boxes, that would be way too much effort for me in the morning, but some ideas are useful. The whole vibe of the channel is so relaxing.

Thank you some great ideas, I am not really trying to cut carbs but just to take something in that is not a sandwich x

@ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea oh sorry yes I put the salad bits in another pot, zap the rice stuff and then add the cold bits back in.

If I'm making my own quinoa then I don't heat that up at all and shove it all in!
