Big family vegetarian lunch

We have family coming to lunch next week. Including us, there will be 8 adults, plus 6 children, and most of them are vegetarian. To complicate things, we don't even have enough table space/chairs for a sit down meal, so it's going to have to be a bit of a standing up meal (we didn't actually invite this many people - they sort of all piled in and invited themselves, hence how a quick visit has turned into a big family meal, but never mind). I was thinking about doing: #

selection of quiches (store bought)
roast potatoes
hummus
selection of (vegetarian) cheeses
olives
crusty bread and butter
salad - what sort? - plus will have tomatoes, cucumber slices, etc. esp for kids

Any ideas for a pudding that is easy and doesn't require a plate/dish? I was thinking about doing ice cream cones for the kids and then adults can help themselves too. We don't even have 14 bowls so can't think of anything else to serve them all!

I wasn't thinking of ready-made sausage rolls. A friend makes these and they are absolutely delicious, no Frankenfoods in sight. https://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/type-of-dish/vegetarian-recipes/vegetarian-sausage-rolls

I was thinking of: cheese and other dairy foods, eggs, nuts, beans, lentils, seeds, wholegrains, vegetables, fruit, oil, vinegar, chutney and pickles, bread, butter, olives and so on.

Vegetarian 'Sausage Rolls'

These make delicious party snacks and go well with chutney recipes. They can be frozen before cooking and then glazed and cooked from frozen for about 30-35 minutes.

"Carrot salad with crushed peanuts, sesame seeds, sesame oil, chili and garlic, tossed up"

They won't come back 🤣

I was answering Op for the salad option, not the entire offering.

You didn't invite them all so make the catering easy on yourself.

Quiche, new potatoes and salad is a lovely summer lunch. You can get both a meaty and veggie options. A grown up salad plus the lettuce, tomato, cucumber for kids.

Then you could do a cheese selection with - depending how much effort you want to make - grapes, apricots, olives, celery, chutneys, crackers, breadsticks and bread and even add on hummus or other dips.

Dessert - choice of ice creams or ready made dessert pots - who doesn't love chocolate mousse. Well apart from your low carb guest...

Salad - how about something like this with whatever you fancy putting in it?

I’d do:
Vegetarian tart/quiche
Roasted new potatoes
Greek salad
Beetroot and apple slaw

Cupcakes
Strawberries and grapes
Brownie bites

Really? I'm not sure it would even register with me that there were was no meat. Most people are omnivores, not carnivores. Not providing a veggie option means vegetarians have nothing to eat. Only providing vegetarian options should mean everybody has something to eat.

Not if there is nothing they like except bread and can only eat tiny piece of that because of health.

I would do a veggie lasagne and then make a small one for low carb person with courgette stripes instead of pasta sheets. Easy to eat with a fork while standing

I would serve with garlic bread and a chopped salad.

For the kids I would put a tray of veggie sausages in the oven and have some cucumber and carrot sticks.

Menu sounds great.
Enough choice..ie quiche and salad ( possibly do two types )
or cheeses and bread……( suggest pickles )
choice of roast pots or bread.

All sounds great
Dessert I’d say fruit, slices of melon, pineapple, grapes ( great to accompany the cheeses too )

This is one meal of your life, do people really go to other houses for lunch and have that high expectations?

I have very fussy dc (through no lack of exposure to delicious actual food) and if all they would eat from any of the above mentioned food was bread then so be it. They will live on bread, cucumber and ice cream for one meal. Or forever if they had their way.

It did make me laugh that you asked for vegetarian dessert options though @mindutopia, I don't want meat cake thanks 😁
