What on earth to make for Sunday dinner that's not a roast!?!

Hi - two very hungry boys, plus husband and teen daughter. Cannot be bothered to cook a roast. Added points for anything that caters to an aching jaw for son with recently tightened brace. Thank you in advance for saving Sunday dinner!!! HmmHmm

What do you have in the house?
I sometimes roast a chicken (air fryer) and have it with wraps and salad.
Might even have done that today.

I’m making chilli, to go with our autumnal weather. Add tonnes of sides (avo, tortillas, soir cream ect) if you want to make it a bit fancy.

Cheese and potato pie, sausages, maybe baked beans?
Nothing too crunchy there.

Moussaka? Bit faffy but not as bad as a roast and really delicious... nice and soft for sore mouths too (I still remember that brace pain, your poor ds)

Shepherds or cottage pie
Lasagne
Beef in beer stew

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 30/07/2023 15:25

Lasagne or spag bol

TakeMe2Insanity · 30/07/2023 15:25

Bolognaise! Pasta is soft so easy to eat with the tightened braces.

Stew, Shepherds pie,
Often have vegetarian haggis but you probably don't have that in.

A roast is the easiest meal of the week for me. No need to think, or plan anything.
Meat is in the oven, spuds & other roots added at the appropriate time, greenery in the steamer, juices ready for gravy.
So I'm sitting here surfing until it's time to carve & dish up.

We had a roast chicken with salad and French stick. Everyone seemed happy with it.

If we don’t do a roast on a Sunday then it will be steak pie (although not very braces friendly I presume?)

Chops

A big lasagne in a nice ovenproof tray or dish has a special feel to it, almost celebratory.
I always make the meat ragu with diced carrots and celery, cook it long and slow and often put a layer of creamed spinach in to the pie as well as the pasta, cheese and ragu, to add more interest and colour.
