This really does come out perfectly every time and is great warm from the oven and also keeps for days getting more delicious as it ages.

A colleague of mine used to put rum-soaked sultanas in her banana bread, but it didn’t improve it, imo, and I’m a big fan of rum-soaked sultanas ordinarily.

Surprisingly, I've never been on this board before <bounces to test springs>. Seems sturdy enough.

I'd love to be able to recreate my late mother:s ginger cake (which was so popular she had to make it in a roasting tin).

Nigel Slater’s triple ginger cake recipe is excellent, but he says “leave it for a week to improve before eating” - you what, mate?!?!

Jam and Clotted Cream says something similar.

The only way I can think of doing that is making three at the same time and hiding two away. Then repeat at least once a week.

During lockdown the Guardian had a 20 cake recipe article and (because lockdown) I decided to bake all of them (except the pineapple upside down cake 🤮). The nicest, by far, was a strawberry sponge with cream cheese icing.

Place marking, I’ve got a few good recipes to post later (got to go to Pilates first).

Damned good idea, like a cheese board. Never mind your mimsy three tiered flowery plates, just put ALL the cakes on a stonking great piece of wood.

Gooseberry and elderflower do sound as if they'd go well together.

I made the Pink Lemonade Loaf Cake that's on the front of the current Tesco magazine. Absolutely amazing and looks great for the effort involved. My family rated it the best cake I've ever made.
