Non-spicy dinner party ideas

BinkoGiloba · 09/07/2023 21:24

We love spicy food and always trying new recipes. Current favourite recipe books are Persiana and any by Ottolengi.

We take in turns to host with a couple of neighbours but neither are adventurous with food so I'm feeling stuck for ideas.

Examples are not liking lamb (too fatty), don't like spicy stuff, don't like aurbergine.

Would love some ideas for relaxed and easy dinner party ideas. I've done lasagna, salmon and chicken so far.

Chorizo crumbed cod

Delia is usually good for this sort of thing

I've made this loads of times, usually with prawns salmon, cod and smoked haddock (and leaving out the capers) www.deliaonline.com/recipes/collections/easy-entertaining/luxury-fish-pie-with-rosti-caper-topping. All the work can be done earlier in the day and just bung it in the oven and serve with green salad or veg

Another fish one www.deliaonline.com/recipes/international/european/french/salmon-en-croute

This chicken dish is very tasty www.deliaonline.com/recipes/collections/quick-and-easy-recipes/chicken-breasts-with-wild-mushroom-and-bacon-stuffing-and-marsala-sauce

Might be a bit heavy for this time of year, but a beef bourguinon is also lovely, easy to prep and leave to slow cook, or even more impressive, make it the day before, leave to cool and then top with flaky pastry for a pie, rich and delicious

When I’ve catered for a friend who very much won’t eat “foreign food” (so probably much fussier than your neighbors!) a nice pie or tart with some crushed new potatoes and asparagus has always gone down well

I would do a roast rib of beef or sirloin, but rather than serving it as a roast, I'd do it lighter. Eg with some buttered new potatoes, green beans and glazed carrots. Or with a variety of salads. Or serve it as steak with chips, roasted mushrooms/tomatoes and some onion rings.
