Chicken situation/off day?

PopsicleHustler · 03/07/2023 13:58

I have just seen i have 6 packets of fresh chicken in the fridge and today is its use by Date! Obviously, I cannot cook and eat 6 packets of chicken in one day. Luckily, I have a big family.

So, my plan is to use two packets to make roasted chicken tonight. And also deep fry some tonight (in flour, eggs and seasoning) to make my own fried chicken strips homemade kfc style.
Will they be ok to keep in the fridge over night and eat tomorrow as they do not look like they can be cooked from fresh tomorrow. They are not necessarily yellow but look like they are on their last day! My darling husband is adamant they will be fried so will be safe !

Cook them all today and eat over the next few days. Or stick them in the freezer to eat at a later date. Or do a mix; cook some, freeze some

Cook it all today, and then use up over the rest of this week eg make a risotto, fajitas, in a salad, in wraps. I put all meat and fish straight in the freezer, for this reason!

I would open them to check they are still okay today and then bag/box them up and freeze them to defrost on the day of use.

Can I freeze chicken on its off day???? How long will it keep?

Can I fry the chicken and then freeze it straight away

Thank you for the replies! I already had to throw out 4 other packs of fresh chicken that all go off today and yesterday and were looking yellow and slimy. I can't believe asda delivered me short date chicken ! Grrrr!

I suppose its like buying chicken on the day it goes out of date. You can cook it or freeze it on that day. It will keep for several months in the freezer. If you cook it then its OK in the fridge for a few days

I buy loads of whoops chicken (well I used to, I don't find very much any more 🤔) so it was always on its last use by date
Always freeze it, it's always fine

I don't want to freeze them straight away. I want to cook them and then freeze! Or refrigerate!

I want to use two packs tonight to make roast chicken for a roast dinner.

And while that's cooking, fry up fried chicken in flour and so on , then when it's cooled down put in the fridge for tomorrow dinner!

Is this safe? Sorry, if I wasn't clear in my above post, ladies :) thanks so much

this is a great video that sort of covers this issue and gives a few ideas.
