Squash without the artificial sweeteners

JarOfRocks · 01/07/2023 18:51

I'm a Diet Coke addict. Trying to cut down by switching to sparkling water with squash. But so many brands of squash also seem to have artificial sweeteners in. Are there any decent ones that don't? I love raspberry, mango, peach etc type flavours rather than orange and apple.

Belvoir cordials don't have fake sweeteners, nor Bottle Green.

Sainsbury's do a classic lemonade without sweeteners.

San Pellegrino lemonade doesn't have sweeteners.

Mycatiscrazy · 01/07/2023 19:03

Belvoir and rocks don't have artificial sweeteners

Hwory · 01/07/2023 19:04

Bottle green summer raspberry is lush with sparkling water.

I will warn you all of the non sweetener cordial (that I’ve found) position themselves as fancy and are priced accordingly.

Roses lime cordial, not on your list of flavours but may be useful to know

BigBoysDontCry · 01/07/2023 19:11

Rocks organic squash. It does have cane sugar though.

lovemycbf · 01/07/2023 19:12

Rocks do a squash made with sugar there's blackcurrant and also orange

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 01/07/2023 19:22

We like Rocks. Making your own cordial is actually very easy too. Sugar and water (roughly 650g sugar for every 500ml water), heat until sugar dissolved then add your fruit juice, zest, steep your flower heads or whatever you are making. If steeping then steep overnight. Strain and bottle. If you want it to last longer add citric acid.

San Pellegrino drinks now also contain sweeteners ☹️

Fuckingfuckssake · 01/07/2023 19:35

So easy to make your own, elderflowers are about done now but we're coming into blackcurrant season.

Some do, some don't. The taller thin cans don't

Clementineorsatsuma · 01/07/2023 19:44

M&S have sweetener free squash.

RebeccaCloud9 · 01/07/2023 19:44

I used to drink loads of squash but stopped having sweeteners. I go for a Belvoir cordial for a 'nice' drink, but just trained myself to enjoy water more. I have ice and/or fruit (usually lemon/lime/orange slices) in either tap or fizzy water. I actually really enjoy these now and don't feel like I'm denying myself anything.

RebeccaCloud9 · 01/07/2023 19:45

Side note, I heard someone call it Belle voir the other day - it's pronounced Beaver for anyone that didn't know 😁

Polish cordials are great https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/263204408

MotherAbigail · 01/07/2023 19:54

Another vote for Polish cordials. We have a polish supermarket near us and they have about 5 flavours. The orange is amazing and reminds me of proper Kia-ora from the 80s before everything was poisoned with sweeteners

Hugasauras · 01/07/2023 19:59

Asda do a version of their own apple and mango high juice without sweeteners.

Pineapplewaves · 01/07/2023 20:20

Some flavours of Asda High Juice have a label on them saying "sugar not sweetener". Remember they'll be higher in calories than the sugar free ones.

Cynderella · 01/07/2023 22:14

For decades, I wouldn't drink tap water, but now I forced myself to drink it and now it's what I drink on a regular basis. It has to have ice, and now I have a fancy Quooker tap, it's often sparkling. In the same way that it took me a while to give up milk and sugar in hot drinks, it wasn't a quick and easy change. Now, I wouldn't go back.

JarOfRocks · 01/07/2023 22:37

Thanks all. A few brands to try out. I do need to 'train' myself. I think i need to get off the Diet Coke addiction first with some decent tasting squash and sparkling water, then when I'm off the caffeine and sweetener combo I can start to move on to just water, which seems a difficult thought at the moment!

Pixley Berries have a lovely blackberry and raspberry cordial. Not so easy to find now though.

JollyMollyPolly · 01/07/2023 22:50

Teisseire do some lovely full sugar syrups which you dilute with water. They are pricey but I've had some bargains through random deals on Amazon.

Xmasbaby11 · 01/07/2023 23:06

I find a lot contain stevia now which I hate. San Pelligrino lemonade and M and S squash changed and now contain it, so I’ve stopped drinking them.

I do like water with half a lemon or lime squeezed into it. It’s so refreshing!

aveline161 · 01/07/2023 23:17

Apologies if there’s something in here that we’re trying to avoid but when I want full sugar squash I get this one- not always in stock and they do a sugar free one too so you have to be careful! Glad to know there are others on the market now https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/sainsburys-high-juice-orange-squash-drink-1l?utm_medium=cpc&catalogId=10241&productId=83356&utm_campaign=15424330555&storeId=10151&gclid=Cj0KCQjwnf-kBhCnARIsAFlg492tH1l_j9RCUJOCShLe3vqa8LR4FUmWmhV3Wvi5i0xJgtJT4xa9XLUaAtBWEALw_wcB&langId=44&utm_source=Google&krypto=oSGl8XjVv0Wli4%2B68q4u8BhDEako3HMnYqqvNfSLhUsXKlWI8QcQZebC89dGJlfQ%2FW%2FfeZ5FHU1AMJ2HrR3j9SStkHRx8B6KX%2BlBeC%2BBaDE0bZ3go1Y5SZh97Mi2Y%2BV0lgbUY%2FHGFqGVO6xVkrw6sJ1Rd7LCG9KlQINI6fCbl4aiw4NrSlsF1ZGKSmXulyP7gF4nTFIIVCkfzk5Nlp%2Br1izTCHogeNv85vRAuMCyy5oUkxB1X6oNklqyUkwY3wFX%2BFDauJbF%2B47EnwIb1CoPxK%2B%2FPSS%2FrRCnYNu%2BC0uaSQAqcuRzdCc6Yg5rNP9AwNwWys06SOmn3snsecfsm6BVXUNM6gkEJpOd6vTDoEsWf6BRJq%2F0Ypzr6zq5FEzOf9lvf9Ux%2BywbTKSuCJEJBEnYZpsgzxOD7VLL50IVV64pmvPIoHOZk1SdjWLBxmjn%2Fd8SZ5mpZ7HMBONps4VYWnlb%2BasHSpxt8xnFR1A4tRldDyfqMY7BXiEPjYkGAorM39HxqyJRQiwCJUkvhPyzeFsXpQ%3D%3D&ddkey=https%3Agb%2Fgroceries%2Fsainsburys-high-juice-orange-squash-drink-1l

Good thread. I'm also struggling to find soft drinks with no additives these days. I know the obvious answer is to learn to enjoy water more, but I find my tap water tastes like bleach, and my distilled water machine makes water taste "burnt" almost.

I suppose the obvious answer is to find a better water source, but in the meantime, I'll use the Polish raspberry cordial, and look at making my own - hadn't realised how easy it was.

MEgirl · 04/07/2023 20:04

Waitrose have some and Sainsbury's have a couple of flavours in addition to the High Orange.
