We are looking forward to our first BBQ at ours this year which is next week.

Do you have any delicious go to recipes for making your BBQ perfect!

I always do my potato salad dish which goes down a storm. The recipe is

1/2 kg new potatoes
shallots
garlic (a lot of garlic - I go over the recommended amount I found!!)
spring onions
butter
mayonnaise
salad cream
salt

Any recipes suggestions welcome!!

thanks in advance

Baby potatoes. The little ones. Are they called
pearl? Anyway, really small.

Cook and then add some pesto and then shavings of Parmesan cheese.

LovelyBitOfSquirrrel · 22/06/2023 13:12

We do a potato salad similar to use but add bacon, it’s only allowed for bbqs and we love it

toastofthetown · 22/06/2023 13:15

I love paneer so tandoori paneer tikka or sticky mango paneer skewers are favourites of mine.

My favourite side is this freekeh salad, especially following the book recipe which adds 50g coriander. It’s bright and vibrant and delicious. It’s massive though. I’d say half the recipe serves the size she recommends!

BBQseasontime · 22/06/2023 13:25

yes baby new potatoes are the small ones. I absolutely love pesto so might try that.

sounds great adding a bit of bacon gives it an extra salt savoury flavour!

wow toastofthetown, those recipes look fantastic and I’m too a fan of paneer. Will look at the freekah salad.

more suggestions keep coming

thank you :)

Spicy cod kebabs are really good if you want a non meat option

Tinks15 · 23/06/2023 06:19

@BBQseasontime this looks yum. Do you have the exact recipe you can share? I’d like to try this.

The recipe for the salad potatoes goes like this.

Boil 1 to 2 kg of baby new potatoes until fairly soft/cooked - leave to one side once boiled in a mixing bowl and add 100 g of butter and a pinch of salt. Mix.

Chop 2 shallots and gently fry in olive oil.

Add three cloves of garlic to the pan, but I usually add eight!! you can up or reduce the amount of garlic as per your tastes.

Chop 4 spring onions and add two to the pan.

add three heaped tablespoons of mayonnaise to the potatoes and two heaped tablespoons of salad cream. Mix.

Then add the shallots, garlic and spring onion to the potato mix.

then put into a serving dish and sprinkle the remaining spring onion.

I make a tomato salad that is always a hit.

Chop a mix of tomatoes - I usually get some cherry, some plum and sometimes those mixed colour tomatoes or a few heritage tomatoes - all into bit size chunks so not finely chopped or anything.

Finely chop half a red onion.

Finely chop a small bunch parmesan.

Mix all together and dress with olive oil, salt and sherry vinegar.

jelly79 · 23/06/2023 15:30

Topped hummus is my new fave! (Roast cherry tomatoes In chilli oil and salt! Pop on the top of hummus with mixed seeds and lots of parsley!)

Love the sound of pesto potatoes

A simple one - chop onions and mushrooms lots of garlic and chilli wrap in foil and whack on the bbq

StGuffersOfTheVillage · 23/06/2023 15:31

Harissa and bacon potato salad. Much more exciting than the standard variety (imo).

inappropriateraspberry · 23/06/2023 15:35

Try adding capers and/or chopped gherkins to the potato salad!
I like a bit of pasta salad as well, not in a creamy/mayo dressing but perhaps some oil and vinegar.

murasaki · 23/06/2023 15:36

Halloumi, chorizo and red onion skewers are fab on the BBC, some without chorizo for the veggies.

BBQseasontime · 23/06/2023 15:47

Great ideas and they all sound super delicious!

I love the extras in those who also recommended potato salads to jazz it up a bit.

@BBQseasontime thanks for this. I like the sound of the tomato salad too @OhBling

Pineapple, butter and brown sugar in tinfoil, served with ice cream.

Brocolli salad - peanuts,red onion,brocoli,carrot and bacon.

The salad is very outing as my mum also made it at her bbqs

Todayisanewday75 · 24/06/2023 07:46

@OhBling is that meant to be a bunch of parmesan or parsley?

tacomaco · 24/06/2023 08:09

The pesto potatoes are best done when they are quite warm so the Parmesan melts a little. They aren’t great cold although DH would disagree.

Doingthework · 24/06/2023 08:28

If you have never done a baked BBQ Camembert they are always a popular starter I just slice the very top off put some onion chutney on them replace top and wrap in foil. I’ve cooked par bake rolls also on the BBQ to dip in saves messing around with the oven inside.

UsethisUsername · 24/06/2023 08:31

I’m sorry OP but if you don’t add a huge kick of horseradish to your potato salad you’re missing out!

meatbaseddessert · 24/06/2023 08:37

This thread is gold!
