What can I eat buttery marmite with?

My favourite food used to be a fresh baguette slathered in buttery marmite. However, I now can't tolerate any wheat. This morning I was making buttery marmite toast for DD and like an animal licked the knife - it was HEAVEN.

How can I get my buttery marmite hit without wheat?

I like it on rice cakes.

I know this will sound weird but slices of avocado. Marmite and avocado is a lovely combination.

Marmite risotto! Sounds odd, but it’s delicious and quite quick and simple to make. It also warm and a bit comforting, which marmite on toast is (in contrast to a rice cake), but obviously lacks the crispiness, though if you’re willing, a Parmesan crisp is simple to make and I imagine it would go wonderfully.

Meera Sodha’s vegan recipe for Marmite risotto with tomato-and-crispy-chilli butter | The new vegan

This risotto uses just enough Marmite to achieve a savoury base, allowing outrageously flavourful tomatoes in chilli-oil butter to do the real talking

I thought marmite contained wheat?

The Marmite brand does, but most own brands don’t. We have Lidl’s at the moment for that reason and it’s a pretty god substitute, though I found Sainsbury’s poor (probably because it was marked as low salt).

Someone had to say it, might as well be me...

Broccoli, cauliflower, celeriac.

Delicious

Marmite roast potatoes. DH is a hater so I can only do them when he’s away.

Glastobore · 07/06/2023 08:20

Gluten free bread. But Marmite has wheat in it.

I made a cheese and marmite soufflé a few weeks ago. So good.

Thanks all! I hadn't considered rice cakes because DH has misophonia and can't stand me making crunchy noises. But I'm prepared to shut myself in the airing cupboard and crunch to my hearts content if necessary

Can't you buy him some ear protectors? 😏I thought I would never like rice cakes, thought of them as being like tasteless round foam ceiling tiles, then our local organic shop were giving away some Kallo sesame flavoured ones, a box by the till, going out of date, and I was hooked! Great with Marmite.

Marmite popcorn is delicious

notapizzaeater · 07/06/2023 09:36

Original marmite isn't GF - some of the own brand stuff is - Tesco is one.

I've just bought the new crispy rolls from Sainsbury’s - not had them yet but supposed to taste like the danish crisp breads .

WhereMyRosemaryGoes · 07/06/2023 10:27

I can't eat wheat or gluten and had to give up Marmite because it contains gluten from wheat. Took me ages to work out why I was symptomatic when I thought I was completely wheat free.

My substitute is some god-awful GF Vegemite :(

TheHighQueenOfTheFarRealm · 07/06/2023 10:29

Just kick a spoon of it like a lolly. Lasts ages.

TheHighQueenOfTheFarRealm · 07/06/2023 10:29

Lick obviously

CindersAgain · 07/06/2023 10:31

Oatcakes and you can add cheese too. There are GF oatcakes you can get with no trace of gluten.

Georgyporky · 07/06/2023 11:08

Corn tortillas - but check the label.

bonfirebash · 07/06/2023 11:22

Mash it into a jacket potato with cheese
