using up maple syrup - preferably savoury dishes

We have most of a bottle of maple syrup, bought to go with bacon and pancakes, but rarely make pancakes in the morning these days. Need some ideas to use it up but am trying to avoid desserts and cakes at the moment. I've seen it used in the sauce for ribs and as an addition to chicken marinade. Any other suggestions please? Thank you.

Nigella maple chicken and ribs uses 60ml - a real crowd pleaser

I know the clue is in the name, but I can't get over it being tree sap!

If you aren't likely to use it- put it on olio! Its an app to give away food items which you can't use- even open and used products.

Agree that it doesn't go off. But I use it with salmon too, this recipe is gorgeous with some stir-fried veg

We love this teriyaki salmon recipe too! Glad to see it's back on BBC Good Food, it disappeared for a bit.

Make a streaky bacon sandwich but use eggy bread and maple syrup as the spread 😋

I must try some of these!

Having seen all these suggestions, we will definitely use it! But good to be reminded about olio, i hate food waste.

I don’t know how helpful this is, but maple syrup can be used as a substitute for fenugreek in curries and other recipes. (It contains a similar compound that creates the fenugreek flavour.)

Teriyaki salmon.

Soy sauce, maple syrup and sesame oil. Ginger and garlic.

You're welcome.

I actually have it in a Saturday Kitchen recipe book, where it seems far more complicated than the steps in that BBC link, despite being the same recipe!

substituting it anywhere you might use honey is a good rule of thumb.

Sarvanga38 · 28/05/2023 08:22

It can go mouldy, actually, I had a not huge bottle of good maple syrup do it recently. My next bottle is a huge glass maple leaf one that was bought for me as a holiday gift, when that gets opened I'll be using some of these recipes to make sure it doesn't happen again!

This cake recipe sounds worth a try.

Do you store it in the fridge? I’ve had it gone mouldy when left in the cupboard but not since I started putting it in the fridge.

I have had maple syrup go mouldy too. It is not the same as honey which has anti microbial properties. It is simply a naturally-occurring form of sugar syrup. (And delicious!)

Ilove maple syrup with eggs. Gorgeous.
