I am making a birthday cake for a Chinese lady who is coming to stay with family. Her English name is Pearl. How can I decorate a cake to reflect this while please keeping it simple! I'm no Mary Berry!

Well, you can buy pearlescent sugar balls & spray/powders, if you wanted to make fondant icing shapes etc. But I'm a little confused as to why you need to reflect her name in the cake? Is it for a birthday? Wouldn't a nice simple cake be nicer?
Personally I find fondant a bit yuck, much prefer buttercream, so a simple layer cake with buttercream & optional jam?

Coming to stay from elsewhere in the UK? Or coming to stay from China?
I'm always very disappointed by cake from the Chinese Bakery, as it is no where near as tooth rottingly sugary as a typical British birthday cake.
Usually whipped cream (which i hate) and fruit on top.

I think you can get sugar pearls?

Can't help much more, as I'm hopeless at decorating!

Could you not get a personalised topper saying Happy Birthday Pearl. You can buy them online
