Cholesterol and cheese

I've just been told that my cholesterol is high, the main culprit in my (veggie) diet is cheese I think. Has anyone succeeded in finding something that hits the spot as a replacement, that will help get the figure down?

how are you eating it? Lots of grilled halloumi? Feta in salads? Grated into pasta sauces?

Yes all those as well as chunks of cheddar!

If your current cheese habit is for mild/medium cheeses, then you could try changing to stronger tasting cheeses, but using less to get your ‘cheese hit’.

Oh dear, already on extra mature.

Actually, there is a lot of doubt about the link between dietary cholesterol and blood cholesterol levels. I have quite high cholesterol in my family (but not the 'familial' genetic kind, oddly), but my cholesterol was highest when I was eating a vegetarian diet because of the high carb intake. It was the lowest when I switched to eating a paleo style high protein/high fat diet. If you are looking to reduce anything, I'd look at your starchy carbs and also increase healthy fats, fibre (fruits/veg), protein.
