Coronation day menu

I'm not a royalist but I will be watching Saturday's events on TV. We have friends coming to stay (coincidentally) and I will be cooking a quintessentially British Coronation-themed menu, as follows:

Afternoon Tea with scones, jam and Cornish clotted cream.

Dinner:
Home grown English asparagus to start.
Roast beef from the local farm with Jersey Royal potatoes and spring veg.
Blackberry and apple crumble (fruit saved in freezer)
Cheese board with a Welsh Blue cheese, Double Gloucester and Scottish oatcakes.

I think I've covered most of the key British regional bases and managed to avoid quiche.

What are others planning? (No need to respond if you aren't into it ...)

I'm making the bloody quiche because I'm swimming in eggs and last year's broad beans, so I feel it's called for. Then will make finger sandwiches (probs cucumber and cream cheese and coronation chicken) because the kids love them and scones/jam/clotted cream. We'll have fizzy drinks for the kids and I'll have a non-alcoholic sparking wine. That's just for lunch.

We are having an entirely non-traditional coronation dinner of leftover pork chilli verde later! 😂But it's made from our own Devon raised rare breed pork so that's something, I guess.

We've been invited to go to my DSis' house for a Chippy Tea! Grin

Takeaway here too!

We will do a little afternoon tea as well, but it's just me and dcs this weekend, so not up to much. We do have scones already (shop bought I'm afraid). I'll make sandwiches too. We will definitely watch some of it on TV. DCs like all that. I'm not English but I am still interested in it.

Tomorrow we are doing Christmas dinner 😂. Chicken instead of turkey and broccoli instead of sprouts and then cake and custard for pudding.

We're being very patriotic today and having left over domino's for breakfast and then we'll have a coronation curry (takeaway)

Gosh sounds yum but have your afternoon tea around lunchtime - I couldn't eat that dinner if I had the tea mid afternoon!

Very patriotic indeed! Grin

We've done British spring lamb with all the trimmings, bought at the local farm shop (less than 3 miles in terms of food miles)

Coronation Colin the caterpillar from M&S, scones with jam & cream, best of British cheese board, English sparkling wine & as much pomp and ceremony as I can soak in 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
