Rice wine substitute: mirin or dry sherry?

Just for a marinade along with soy sauce - too stingy to shell out for the wine...

I'd use mirin, it prob won't make a huge difference. ( is rice liquor = mirin)

Mirin IMO, and a little sesame oil if you have it. Sherry is quite strong and sherry-ish.
