i've just got back from grannies with the dc's and dh tells me that we have friends for supper tonight. Nothing is ready of course - he's had to go to work and i am out and about on and off with the kids today. I will need to go to the supermarket, what shall i buy/make for an informal supper bearing in mind that dh avoids wheat & dairy but i can usually get round this by substituting stuff like rice flour and soya milk

any ideas? please?

I'd do either chilli or lasagne in this situ.
Chilli better cos you can cook in advance and reheat when ready to serve (or keep warm in slow-cooker if youb have one). Cheap too!

pork and apple and cider casserole
mashed potato
watercress salad

buy a lemon tarte or chocolate truffle cake from deli counter

Pork and apple casserole
Brown off the pork. Chop vegetables (onions, mushrooms, carrots etc) and put in the pot, throw in a peeled, cored and quartered cooking apple. Add the pork and pour over some stock (or cider).cook at 100 degrees for 6 hours
