A Vesta chicken supreme followed by vanilla ice cream and Ice Magic.

Anything and everything my mother cooked except mushrooms! Luckily she would cook me something different. We always had something on toast for tea on a Sunday, and it was often mushrooms on toast, after my DMum had cooked us an amazing roast dinner at lunch time.

Also, very thick Custard with the skin still on it, and
Rice pudding with the skin still on it.

My mum's homemade apple pie.

So if I can go to the restaurant for all of a day's meals, it would be:

Breakfast: My mum's bacon and eggs on her crispy (and greasy) fried bread; unless my grandparents were visiting from Ireland, when the fried bread would be replaced by real fried Irish Potato Bread - Food from the Gods!

Lunch: My Mum's roast beef dinner, with all the trimmings.
Followed by the Knickerbocker glory that she would get me as a treat at a Lyons Corner House.

Dinner: My mum's minced beef with very soft sliced onions, on top of lumpy mashed potatoes, with a well made in the middle of them (specially for me, and only on mine), with baked beans in the 'well'.
Followed by her Apple Pie and thick Custard, with the skin still on it.

Dad's crumbed lamb cutlets (lamb was cheap in the late 1970's) with mashed potato and zucchini/tomato bake with breadcrumbs on top. God I could go for that right now.

And a few volauvents too. With prawns.

Ooooh I forgot the volauvents with creamy seafood!

Did your parents have 70's dinner parties too?

Pseudonamed · 11/04/2023 06:17

Interesting we had our vol au vents with stewed apple and cream in them :)

C1N1C · 11/04/2023 06:35

Cheese on toast

Itsgottobeme · 11/04/2023 12:05

You can't ask this question. It's too unfair.

SirChenjins · 11/04/2023 12:09

Scampi and chips in a basket with tartare sauce followed by strawberry Angel Delight. Stuff of legends in the 70s

dudsville · 11/04/2023 12:11

My mum's chicken and broccoli stirfry.

dudsville · 11/04/2023 12:12

or my grandmother's lunches withthe table laden with veg from the garden. I loved both of these.

Random789 · 11/04/2023 12:13

Tomato sandwiches followed by bananas and custard.
Finished off with 'tea and dip-ins', ie Rich Tea Biscuits and Digestives dipped in tea

Giggorata · 11/04/2023 12:13

Curry - except that it would have raisins in it.

Seeline · 11/04/2023 12:21

My Mum's cottage pie - I have never come close to replicating it!
With some of her home-grown runner beans (so much nicer than anything shop-bought).
Pudding - either one of her apple crumbles or sherry trifle

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 11/04/2023 12:22

Chicken and chips in a basket.

Pieceofpurplesky · 11/04/2023 12:31

My mum's meat and potato pie.

Giggorata · 11/04/2023 12:13

Curry - except that it would have raisins in it.

My mum did this too, with apple chopped up in it too.
She'd also make chilli with baked beans for us kids as apparently we didn't eat it when she cooked or with kidney beans
Despite the above, she was a good cook lol 😂

Iwantthepenthouse · 11/04/2023 12:39

Nuggets, curly fries and beans.
Butterscotch angel delight for pudding.

Or my nan's roast dinner.

J0S · 11/04/2023 12:41

@Iwantthepenthouse I see your butterscotch angel delight and raise you butterscotch angel delight with chopped up Mars bar and topped with Carnation milk .

Itsagrandoldteam · 11/04/2023 12:42

My mom's christmas dinner, or any of her roast dinners.

My dad used to make an amazing bubble and squeek, I wish I could but mines nowhere near as nice as his.

He also made the best beef burgers ever, he would toast the buns and grill the cheese, they were excellent.

Followed by my mom's apple crumble. I would love to eat any of these again 😢

maddy68 · 11/04/2023 12:45

Findus crispy pancakes chips and baked beans. With a side of cheese and ham toast toppers.

Itsonlyagame · 11/04/2023 13:34

Ham and pineapple pizza and a coke float

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 11/04/2023 14:33

Farley's Rusks,
followed by jelly and ice-cream.

AgnesX · 11/04/2023 14:36

Prawn cocktail followed by steak and chips. Still love those even now.

bellinisurge · 11/04/2023 14:37

Mince, peas and rice. With a bit of Tabasco sauce on it.

ODFOx · 11/04/2023 14:52

We didn't have a freezer when I was little, and most of my food memories were to do with glut: eating things in season for what seemed like weeks on end.
Sunday supper for weeks every year was cold roast pheasant with home made bread, butter, a tomato and a big dollop of chutney.
I'm misty eyed at the memory.
I'd like to order that please. I don't think I've eaten cold roast pheasant since we got a freezer, about 45 years ago!
