Give me a recipe that looks impressive, good for a barbecue

I normally make Nigella's chocolate key lime pie.

I know I could research this myself but give me your favourites.

I’m making an egg custard for Sunday and Malva Pudding for Monday. Neither impressive but bloody tasty.

PartnersInCrime · 07/04/2023 16:24

Pavlova

JuneOsborne · 07/04/2023 16:25

I'm thinking of making a clafoutis on Sunday, so chucking that into the mix.

fruitstick · 07/04/2023 16:26

Malva pudding sounds delish!

Bakewell tart is easy to make.
Eton mess is even easier.

SisSuffragette · 07/04/2023 17:13

I'm making a pina colada cheesecake I saw on here yesterday.

I've promised to take dessert tomorrow
Slimjimtobe · 07/04/2023 17:15

I would make a rocky road cake with mini eggs

AdoraBell · 07/04/2023 17:15

I second a pavlova

I've just made myself an eggless chocolate salami as a birthday "cake". Not bothered with the twine bit, but just the icing sugar makes it look realistic. I've mixed and matched a few recipes according to what's around, this is the basic one I work from, but I've adapted it and used Lindt dark chocolate, ginger nuts (could use digestives), crystallised ginger, and then marinated black cherries in rum instead of figs (I prefer dried cranberries but can't find them at the moment), as well as a mixture of nuts. https://www.all-thats-jas.com/no-bake-eggless-chocolate-salami/ Really easy and impressive! I think it's an Italian Christmas thing but love it at any time!

No-Bake Eggless Chocolate Salami • All that's Jas

This easy and fun treat made with chocolate, nuts, broken biscotti, and dried figs resembles salami and when sliced, it yields delectable cookies. No-bake eggless chocolate salami recipe is European's favorite Christmas and year-round snack.

Tarte au Citron - but I'd be totally cheating and buying the pastry.

Nigella’s lemon meringue cake. Never known anyone not to like this.

Sylvaniandysfunctionalfamily · 07/04/2023 17:36

Chocolate brownies or lemon polenta cake with ice cream or crème fraiche or a good old fashioned trifle

Nigella's Nutella cheesecake is delicious and super easy... perfect for Easter. I'm a big fan of a pavlova too, but can be rather delicate to transport.

ememem84 · 07/04/2023 17:45

Dm makes this “thing” which is amazing.

huge bowl and throw in raspberries or other red berries (bag of frozen mixed ones will do). Whip equal amounts Greek yoghurt and cream together. Pour over fruit to make a yummy layer. Top with oodles of brown sugar. Leave in fridge overnight. It goes all goey and sugary and yum.

ememem84 · 07/04/2023 17:45

Failing that dm also buys a lemon tart from M&S slices lemons throws on top with a sprig of mint and dusts with icing sugar. She’s passed this off as homemade for years……

Oh good lord. I’m making that.

SarahJinx · 07/04/2023 17:51

I’m doing a load of homemade meringues in a pile, loads of fresh fruit - rasps, strawbs, Banana, blueberries, pineapple etc, ganache, fruit coulis and maybe a bowl of chocolate to sprinkle. Build your own, always goes down a storm and so easy.

Crustless cheesecake (Tarta La Viña, from La Viña restaurant in San Sebastián). Super easy.
For 24cm round mould:
1 kg cream cheese (Philadelphia or mascarpone type)
500ml cooking cream (35%fat)
6 eggs
350-400gr sugar (depending on sweet tooth tendencies)
30gr flour (or fine corn starch for gluten free)

Mix all ingredients in food processor for 30 secs (medium speed)
Pour on mould previously lined with baking paper.
Bake at 200•C for 40-50 minutes (top and bottom heat) . Test the centre to make sure it’s not liquid, leave in oven with open door for 5 minutes.

You can serve it as is or add jam or honey on top. Delicious at room temperature or cold 😋

Nigella’s sweet and salty crunchy nut bars works well at a bbq, it is less formal than a dessert, good for grazing.

RosesInWater · 07/04/2023 18:06

Make Tiramisu. Mine is simple, just the sponge fingers in coffee, a mix of whipping cream, cream cheese, some icing sugar and vanilla extract whipped up.
Layer up, I put crushed Cadbury flake on each layer on top of the cream mix too.
Then top with cocoa powder.

Make the day before, as it "sets" and is easy to transport.

2bazookas · 07/04/2023 18:06

Pavlova. Easy, cheap, looks and tastes fantastic.

lovemycottage · 07/04/2023 18:07

I would do some sort of cheesecake.
Possibly forest berries or some other fruit one.
