My mum used to make a luxurious pud in the 1970s called chocolate refrigerator cake. I've looked for it without success on t'internet.
It might even have been called an ice box cake (not sure) and might have been a Mary Berry recipe (not sure). Sponge fingers on the outside with a rich chocolate moussey filling, then covered all over with whipped cream. It was made in a terrine iirc.
Anyone have recollection of this dessert as I'd love to recreate it !

The meringue pudding sounds like gateau Diane

I used to make that from a Rose Elliot Christmas Book. The sponge fingers were soaked in rum.

I’ve been searching for this chocolate refrigerator pudding recipe for ages and found this thread! The best one I remember was from an old 1970s recipe card my mum had. We used a plastic tub lined with ladyfinger sponges, then a lovely chocolate mousse thing which you had to use gelatine in. Layers of more sponge fingers and finally cream and toasted almonds/flake. If anyone ever finds the recipe card please share!
