Recommendations for a great chocolate cake recipe

Just that really. Daughter is 18 next weekend and I want to make her a chocolate and oreo cake. I've seen a recipe on Good Food but the reviews are a little hit and miss. Can anyone recommend a recipe?

I was just coming on to ask this exact question. I want to make a cake with baileys butter cream, and I think chocolate will be the best sponge to go with that?

Nigella’s chocolate fudge cake is hard to beat. I’ve used the recipe for wedding cakes.

Jane's Pattisserie. Her recipes are amazing, I've never had a disaster moment using them and it's always reliably easy to follow.

I usually make this one, and then just decorate the top so it's not horribly sickly like some themed cakes can end up being. I also split each layer in half so you get 4 layers.

I agree, best choc cake recipe out there.

Mary Berry's chocolate cake is really easy and foolproof. It comes out quite dark like Oreos and not too sweet. Then I'd make a white chocolate buttercream with bits of orero crushed into it.

Another vote for Nigellas chocolate fudge cake. A little faffy but always a good result

Nigella's birthday cake, from How to Eat. No creaming or faffing - you add a mix of condensed milk, butter, sugar and chocolate (heated together so the bitter melts and it all amalgamates) to flour and coca, then beat in eggs. Easy and very delicious.

Not oreo, but we keep coming back to this one.

Otherwise, Jane's patisserie looks to have a chocolate oreo cake, and I find her recipes really good usually.

Second this recipe-its delicious!
