Lunch pudding- dairy free

Sine friends are coming for lunch on the weekend, we’re having a tart thing with salad etc, it’s not posh but I would like an easy relaxed pudding. It needs to be dairy free. Any ideas?

Any kind of sponge cake made with dairy free spread rather than butter? Or you can get dairy free cream / custard so maybe some kind of crumble with cream or custard? Oh or how about a pavlova with dairy free squirt cream?

Deconstructed Eton mess so diary free cam just have meringes and fruit ?

UniversalTruth · 26/03/2023 21:15

Most things can be easily adapted to be dairy free - what would you usually want to make for dessert?

PotterofGryfindor · 26/03/2023 21:17

Fruit with sorbet? You could add mini meringues to make it like an eton mess.

Poached pear
Summer pudding
Sorbet
Vegan brownies

Fruit crumble - just make the crumble with marg instead of butter.

Google Becky Excell sticky toffee pudding. I make it as it's gluten free but she does it dairy free too. It's easy and so damn good

Apple strudel? Apple crumble?

pornyshroudofturin · 26/03/2023 22:13

Nigella's chocolate olive oil cake- you can make with half flour, half ground almonds (quantities are in recipe). Serve warm with cream or creme fraiche then oatly vegan creme fraiche or cream for non-dairy person. I sometimes grate orange zest into the cake batter and add a squeeze of the orange juice too.

Or serve cold with chocolate ganache (using dairy free cream and dark choc) on top, then covered with raspberries.

  • Fruit salad
  • Dairy free ice cream - there's nice soy or coconut ones available
  • apple pie but the pastry made with dairy free spread
UniversalTruth · 26/03/2023 23:16

@Lindy2 most own brand supermarket ready rolled puff pastry is vegan/dairy free so apple pie is a good idea.

Thanks all, I should have said I’ve given up chocolate for Lent! I’m also thinking to avoid pie as we’re having a tart for lunch, too much pastry.

I’m leaning towards pavlova/Eton mess as we both have young children (weaning babies) and they can have some of the fruit.

Oatly whippable custard would be good with fruit and crushed meringue.

ReallyShouldBeDoingSomethingElse · 27/03/2023 13:39

You could do Eton Mess and have real cream for everyone apart from the dairy allergy guest who could have plant milk cream (Oatly do a whippable cream)
