9 month old being very fussy!

Is it 'normal' (Ha!) for a 9 month old to get very fussy over what they eat? Anyone else experience this? Think maybe she is just getting to the stage where she is super clever and knows that desert will come if she cries enough or maybe even a rice cake (even better!). Driving me mental!
Ta.

Are you doing BLW?

kaballie · 12/02/2008 20:58

Hmm, not really sure what I'm doing! She feeds herself, sometimes I feed her...

she is only 9 months old, I shouldnt worry. At this age they are only experimenting with food, milk is still their primary source of sustinace. Dont make an issue of it, if she likes it then great, if she doesnt try something different. Try not to get hung up on the 'good' food and 'bad' food thing.

Sorry! What I mean is are you doing Baby Led Weaning? This is basically where you just let them feed themselves...usually what you are having.

I switched to BLW after my dd (at 7 months) showed no interest in the pureed food I had been feeding her. She decided at this age that she did not want to eat!! So I switched to BLW and have never looked back!

How is she with finger foods? And how many milk feeds is she getting in the day?

kaballie · 12/02/2008 21:01

I really try not to get hung up on it but she had quite a few probs wirh weight gain and me with milk supply. Still BF 3 times a day although she only really feeds at 2 of these. She pretty much refuses water or any other drinks. She also has 6oz of formula at night cos of supply issues . SO fed up with worrying about weight, giving the right foods etc

She definately prefers finger foods, she eats lunch with us but not dinner. She pretty much eats everything herself but is really satring to turn her nose up at anything which isn't fish, yoghurt or bread!

Also, bear in mind that they go through growth spurts etc...sometimes they are hungrier at certain developmental stages....try not to worry. As long as she is breastfeeding then at least she is getting nutritional benefit from this. All babies are different.

What does she eat? You mention that she does feed herself. What kind of things does she like etc?

IamTooSexyForMyName · 12/02/2008 21:07

Sorry, x-post!

She seemes normal to me!! Lots of babies turn their noses up at things. If I were you I would give her what she likes/eats and try not to worry about it. My dd2 hated spag bol at 8 months and now 2 months later she loves it!!

If she eats only things like bread, you could try a variation of things like cheese and toast/eggy bread etc

squimlet · 12/02/2008 21:07

well fish youghurt and bread isnt bad
keep trying her with different stuff. Try and eat your meals togeather and give her what you have. when she sees you eating yours, it might encourage her to eat hers. We did blw and didnt have any problems with ds eating food. he was bf till he self weaned at gone 2 years old. Bless him we call him horse because he eats like one

kaballie · 12/02/2008 21:08

Depends really. Mainly fish, though pasta etc goes down well. Sometimes veg and often fruit. I guess really she doesn't like the brown rice and green veg mush I try and shove down her!

Hmm. I think I need to stop being neurotic, overtired etc and just let her get on with it!

((hugs)) worry not about it. This is the best place to ask all questions neurotic or not. Hope she eats more soon
