What’s on your Sunday roast?

So inspired by the fact it’s Sunday. What’s on your ideal or even typical Sunday roast? I’m always looking for inspiration as I change what we have every week.

Today we had -
Roast beef, Yorkshire, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, honey parsnips, green beans and gravy.
What was on your plate?

Tend to cook it if we are home, at least every 3-4 weeks we take dsd1 out (sn doesn't live with us and that's usually for a roast, to be honest if we take her elsewhere she doesn't want to get out the car to go into her house, she loves a roast

Roast chicken with homemade parsley and thyme stuffing, swede and potato mash, carrots, leeks and Brussels sprouts, plus my unbelievably superb gravy!

There is a sad lacking of bread sauce on this thread. If it's roast chicken it has to be bread sauce.

We have Bread sauce ( Delias recipe ) love it, but only with roast chicken as you said, we only have stuffing with chicken as well.

Yesterday we had our first roast in ages -
Buttered turkey breast
Roast spuds & carrots
Sage & onion stuffing
Broccoli
Fine beans
Gravy
Homemade breadsauce which was delicious & dead easy to make
My ideal roast would be -
Roast pork with proper crackling
Roast spuds, carrots & honey parsnips ( or might have the carrots with swede in mash as I love that)
Cauliflower & broccoli cheese
Petitpois
Creamed leeks
Homemade parsley & thyme stuffing
Homemade gravy & applesauce

Roast chicken breasts wrapped in bacon, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, stuffing, pigs in blankets, sliced boiled carrots, steamed baby corn, gravy. Smile

Crumpetdisappointment · 06/03/2023 07:08

i could make a bread sauce,
having a roast today!

Mummyme87 · 06/03/2023 07:13

We had lamb shoulder, carrots, swede, brocolli, parsnips, Yorkshire puds and mash potato. Kids requested mash instead of roasties. Now my OH was horrified at this, he said mash doesn’t belong on a roast dinner, only roasties. Now growing up, I don’t remember roast potatoes being a thing except at Christmas…. I feel they have only become to norm in the last 15/20years, is that right or have I just forgotten?

Pork with crackling, roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips and sweet potatoes, roast onion, cauliflower cheese, cabbage, green beans and yorkshires. Lovely.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 06/03/2023 07:23

Ooh yes roast onions! Love them!

Numberunknown · 06/03/2023 11:23

@ Mummyme87
I’ve never had mash potato with a roast , to me it’s all about the roast potatoes but it may be a regional thing ( sunny southeast here ) or family preference

VictoriaBun · 06/03/2023 11:28

We don't have a roast very often but when we do. Something vegetarian , roast potatoes & parsnips , Yorkshires , cabbage or broccoli or cauliflower, carrots , sometimes peas, and gravy.

BackInTheGym · 06/03/2023 11:31

Chicken
Roast potatoes
Yorkshire puddings
Paxo stuffing
Frozen garden peas
Sweetcorn (Hot)
Cauliflower cheese - since I met DH, I don't think it goes with gravy
Gravy - bisto and meat juices

Don't judge me , this is the taste of my childhood. We rarely have roasts so I go old school when we do.

CornishGem1975 · 06/03/2023 11:39

I bloody love a roast. Normally chicken with garlic & lemon, stuffing, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, carrots, broccoli, parsnips, cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pudding. All washed down with lashings of gravy and red wine.

Pigs in blankets, creamed sprouts and red cabbage is what makes Christmas dinner different from a normal roast so they don't get involved!

I have both mash and roasties. It's what I had growing up (Irish family) and my kids would be outraged if i didn't.

Yesterday was beef, yorkies, mash, roast potatoes, roast carrots, green beans, creamed leeks and gravy. It was delightful.

BramleyAppleHotCrossBun · 06/03/2023 11:50

Our roast yesterday was pork. We had it with roast potatoes, braised red cabbage, cauliflower cheese, honey roasted carrots, Yorkshire puddings and apple and herb stuffing.

We also had homemade brownies and cream for pudding. It was the best Sunday dinner we’ve had in a long time!

NetballHoop · 06/03/2023 11:52

DH cooks our Sunday roast.

Chicken, home made stuffing balls, roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli and loads of gravy.

ElizabethBest · 06/03/2023 11:55

Always:
garlic roast potatoes
honey, thyme and orange parsnips and carrots
yorkshire puddings
broccoli and/or green beans

Usually:
cauliflower cheese
pigs in blankets if I can find them

Either:
Roasted gammon glazed in maple and wholegrain mustard
Lemon and herb chicken
these amazing giant peppery, herby sausages from our local farm shop (although no pigs in blankets if sausages are the main roast meat thing!)

DS would eat sausages 3 meals a day at the moment, so the past few roast dinners have been sausages, roasted in a pan with onions and apples.

Snowpaw · 08/03/2023 19:29

I roast most of the elements of my roast - I can't stand dealing with various pots of boiling pans and a steamy kitchen with loads of different veg.

Big roasting tin - make a trivet of carrots and a chicken placed on top (stuffed with lemon and garlic), a few halved onions added into the pan, then add parboiled potatoes around the bird and cover them with duck fat and rosemary. Stuffing in a separate dish. Possibly yorkies if I have time.

I would maybe do one green element to go with it - usually frozen peas for quickness in the microwave. Or microwaved sprouts are delicious! Jug of bisto for ease.
