I make a beef pie that always goes down well with kids. The filling takes a while to cook but it is very "hands off" cooking (I often prep it at lunch time and it cooks slowly all afternoon and is ready at tea time).

In a casserole dish put some chopped onions (frozen is good), chopped carrots, chopped celery and a few peeled chopped potatoes. Add pepper (I use white and black pepper), a heaped tbsp of Bisto Best beef gravy powder. Stir that all up, add in some braising steak and add water until it is all just covered by water. Cook with a lid on in a low oven for about 4 hours. After four hours take lid off and shred up the meat with two forks. Take a sheet of ready made puff pastry out of fridge and put it on top of the dish. Turn up the heat in the oven and cook until the pastry is done.
