Beef burgers like the ones from a burger van

Does anyone know where you can buy beef burgers like the ones you might get from a burger van? I am talking about the big, thin ones! I know they’re probably really cheap meat but I am really craving one.

I’ve tried the thin ones at the supermarket from the freezer department, but they’re small and when cooked even smaller!

Where can I get these type of burgers from please? 🤞🏼

Can you get a normal one and sandwich it between sheets of grease proof paper and roll it thin with a rolling pin?

dootball · 22/02/2023 19:58

Bookers / Cash and Carry!

Rhymingrooster · 22/02/2023 19:58

The normal ones are too much ‘proper’ beef for me! 🙈😂

Bookers/macro/cash and carry place

These Iceland ones are the closest I've had.

Cash and carry.
I think you also have to have to have cooked about 50 burgers on the griddle beforehand for authentic flavour.

Rustler Burger?? They're probably the worst convenience food ever but they do taste good!!

bellac11 · 22/02/2023 20:02

Despite all the posh burgers and posh burger restaurants Ive been to (we love eating out), I really cant better the Birds Eye basic burger. Its awful really but thats the truth of it.

theblackradiator · 22/02/2023 20:03

next time you are at a burger van ask where they buy them from I should imagine its some kind of cash&carry like cost co or something like that. I've been craving and looking for steak Canadians for years and I've never been able to find them as nice like they used to be where have they gone??

I didn’t read your post properly and thought this was a very well placed advert 😂

As pp said you probably need a “seasoned” griddle to get the right effect.

FebMama · 22/02/2023 20:09

Chippy! I've just had one tonight 🙌🏽

Fizbosshoes · 22/02/2023 20:13

One of the nicest burgers I've ever had was from a burger van at Wembley after a Jason Donovan concert around 1989....
(...and just because its MN)
...it was so filling, I haven't needed to eat since!🤣

LadyKenya · 22/02/2023 20:23

Those burgers in a tin can may do the trick.

Branleuse · 22/02/2023 20:24

Tinned burgers

bellac11 · 22/02/2023 20:24

And the onions, how do they get them so oniony?

I cant replicate that at home

GyozaGuiting · 22/02/2023 20:25

You can get burgers in a tin? I learn so much from mumsnet.

Duvetdweller · 22/02/2023 20:26

Big Al’s burgers from Booker - but you do need a dirty griddle to make them 👌🏻

WhatFlavourIsIt · 22/02/2023 20:27

Costco

Cactuslove · 22/02/2023 20:28

These from sainsburys aren't thin but taste just like a burger van. They have onion in them. Bought them before reading reviews though and now I'm put off. But the kids loved them. They tasted so so good.

I don't know why you want them but... I'd roll out a normal one nice and flat and fry it with onions in lots of oil... surely that might come close

They cook the onions beside the burgers on the griddle so all the salty, savoury beef grease from them goes into the onions. You’re never going to get the same result coking the onions in a clean non-stick pan with a little fresh sunflower oil.

My local butty shop does Steak Canadians, delicious!

thepatronsaintofbubblewrap · 22/02/2023 20:36

The cheapest, thin frozen ones in Aldi in a box.
The Birds eye frozen beef and onion ones that are expensive for what they are remind me of them.

Carpediem15 · 22/02/2023 20:39

When I worked in a night club we used to sell dozens and dozens of these - cheap and things but tasted great.
They came in catering size cans but was surprised when I googled to see if they were still available and they are available in supermarkets.

Carpediem15 · 22/02/2023 20:40

They are Westlers.

theblackradiator · 22/02/2023 20:42

@LaRitournelle omg where is this butty shop I need to go. I've not seen anywhere selling them for years. you used to be able to buy them years ago from Iceland but they changed them and they're disgusting now.
Sorry this post is in bold text I have a new phone bold has just switched on itself and its not going off when I press on it!
