Pre dinner nibbles ideas: no cheese or nuts & not too filling

We’re away with a big group of friends soon for a long walking weekend. We are self catering and will be making evening meals ourselves, tho we will have lunch out on the last day.

I have been asked to provide nibbles to accompany drinks whilst those assigned dinner prepare the meal .

I did this when we were last together in the summer. One night I did homemade dips (humus, tsatsiki, guacamole) and tortilla chips / crudités. The other night I assembled a platter of olives, artichoke hearts, stuffed peppers - all from jars so no processing required after a long day walking.
Whilst I could repeat theses, I’d like to do something different as it’s not that long ago.

What are your favourite nibbles that meat the following criteria:
No nuts or cheese
Preferably no bread bases as don’t want to be too filling ahead of the meal
Not too fiddly to prepare/assemble for speed, although I could do them in stages putting the simpler stuff out first.

Thanks

Lettuce boats (small, little gem type ones) filled with pre-prepped fillings? BBC Good Food has lots of ideas like sticky pork & tuna with avocado.
Satay sticks?
'Guess the crisp flavours' is a fun one if you have a casual crowd.

Mini vegetable spring rolls and prawn crackers with sweet chilli dipping sauce
Mini popadoms with a selection of different curry sauces to dip

Crackers and a variety of pate; mackerel, liver, mushroom

Blinis

Savoury popcorn

How about a few bits on sticks. So king prawn and chorizo, bite size piece of chicken tikka with a cube of mango and a cube of cucumber. A peach slice wrapped with a slice of Palma ham, garlic mushroom with celery. Cocktail sausage marinated in honey and mustard.

Mini poppadoms with a spoon of chutney and a piece of chicken or paneer tikka.

If hot food is ok these pigs in blankets glazed in pomegranate molasses could be easily done with cocktail sausages and went down a storm this Christmas. We topped with pine nuts not picachios and it worked fine so easily nut free. There's a couple of thither options on the page too. The chicory boats look beautiful.

Thank you everyone, lots of ideas there.
I hasn't thought of anything 'meaty' as I felt they'd be too heavy ahead of the meal, but will maybe have a rethink. Thanks again

I know you said no cheese, but watermelon with feta and parsley is ridiculously quick & tasty whilst being v light
Mackerel pate - stronger flavours mean you only need a little so won't fill up
Cucumber slices with crème fraîche and 'pretend' caviar or sm salmon
Roasted chickpeas

Sparkletastic · 20/02/2023 18:38

Blinis with crème Fraiche and caviar
Croutes with roasted red pepper paste

Edamame beans, you can buy frozen pods which you boil for 2 mins and then add salt or other toppings. Just need bowls for the used pods.

Brilliant - thank you - that is exactly the sort of thing I am looking for. Quick, easy to make lots, and not too filling. I usually toss in bit of soy sauce. Any other suggestions?
Roast Padron peppers is another one a bit like that but someone made them for this group in the summer so ideally I'd do different things.

Mini skewers e.g. melon balls and prosciutto and possibly olives, cheery tomatoes (red &yellow) and small mozzarella balls (replace the cheese with chicken bites or avocado) etc.

Home marinated olives - doing your own looks fabulous, home made pickles and you could make your own Bombay mix too!

AdaColeman · 21/02/2023 06:18

Radishes, you could serve with a sour cream dip, but also good with celery salt.
Hard boiled quail eggs, with celery salt.
Slices of salami, quartered fresh figs, cherry tomatoes, arranged on a plate.
Savoury homemade popcorn, flavoured with black pepper or smoked paprika or celery salt.
Cubes of frittata/Spanish omelette

sashh · 21/02/2023 06:18

A pack of cocktail sticks and then a selection of things people can put on them eg

Chunks of melon (you could do 2 different types)
cherry tomatoes
olives
cheese cubes - just a few - I know you said no cheese but a small amount, maybe feta won't hurt
pickled onions
sliced spring onions

Maybe some hot things as well

Mushrooms fried in garlic butter
chicken tikka
cubes of chorizo

A couple of dips

hummus
garlic (half and half mayo and greek yoghurt with crushed garlic)

AdaColeman · 21/02/2023 07:18

Supermarket supplies...
Stuffed vine leaves, cut in half to serve as finger food, don't get the ones packed in oil, get from M&S delicatessen aisle.

Falafel, lots of different types available.
