Oxtail

I love it, but haven't seen it for sale anywhere for a long time.
I've got Sainsbo, Tesco & Morrison near me, but none of them have it. Unfortunately no such thing as a proper butcher within reach.

Anyone know a reason for this, or where I can get it ?

You'll have to go to a proper butcher but even at that they might not have it. It's just not popular anymore which is a shame. I'm always on the look out for beef shin and pork shoulder but you tend to see them more often then oxtail

Waitrose meat counters often have it. You don't usually find it outside of a meat counter or butcher though.

I have to order it online now as we don't have a decent butchers nearby either.

Larger branches of Sainsbury’s stock it. It's not as good as fresh from the butchers but it still makes a great stew

Sainsbury's near me had it, well had it for delivery, I was shocked at the price though.

I've bought from Morrisons recently

My Morrison’s had it today (Greater Manchester) - I was going to get some until I saw the price. I think it was around £13!

As it's now so expensive, I might find it in Waitrose !!

Looking round this weekend (had to do the rounds of supermarkets for various things) I did notice that there’s a lot less meat, and more in the way of things like meatballs, mince, burgers etc. cuts that used to be cheap like brisket, offal, and oxtail have gone through the roof price-wise.

I buy it in waitrose sometimes and it's usually quite cheap. Something like £7/kg I think.

I bought some an hour ago from M&S - its in the freezer section.

Our local Tesco used to have it fairly regularly, but they've gotten rid of their butcher counter now.
