Gammon ?

I'm making a gammon joint today for a late dinner, I'm just wondering how to prepare. I've had a look online and seen many recipes call for mustard and honey. Which annoyingly I don't have in. I'll go to the shop if I really need to. I've got some brown sugar will that work? Also any ideas what to serve it with?

Think traditionally boiled potatoes and parsley sauce.

yes brown sugar is fine. you could have it with anything, jacket potato, wedges, salad,

Brown sugar would work. No mustard at all, mustard powder, made mustard? Cloves are good pushed into the fat side (that's cloves not garlic cloves). I usually take the skin off and bake in foil then add then cover with honey/sugar mustard and cloves half an hour or so before the end and allow to brown. Serve with whatever veg you like and potatoes (I prefer new/baby boiled), sometimes do a cheese sauce with a bit of mustard added.

My mouth Is watering reading these replies lol. I'm definitely going to go for potatoes! I've got some green beans in there, I'll use them.

I quite like to cook mine in some cider as it stops it getting too dry. Leeks in cheese sauce nice with it

I boil mine and change water once to get salt out then cook in some apple juice.

Then mix up some marmalade or apricot jam with boiling water and make a glaze and finish off for 20 minutes in the oven

Nigella's ham in coke is always a winner.

OldTinHat · 12/02/2023 16:04

Put in a large pan and cover with full fat coke. Simmer away according to weight.

Delicious!

I love gammon cooked in cooked in ginger beer, then top with crushed pineapple and roasted off. Serve with sweet potato wedges and served with a pineapple, chilii and sweetcorn Salsa.

I like to try preparing in ham in many different ways, but this one I've never done. This is definitely next on my list as it sounds like it could be divine!
