For breakfast this morn i had asda smartprice bran flakes,no difference from the usual asda bran flakes and they where only 71p! Been thinking of buying more from this range and the others (Basics,Value,Bettabuy etc).

Just wondered what others got from these ranges which were really good and what wasnt so good.

Have started using Tesco and Sainsburys own brand dishwasher tablets and cat food, both are fine and half the price. Ditto babywipes.

Ooooooooh.

Well, I am the queen of cheap line stuff since I am always impoverished. All mine apply to sainaburys only, since that is all that is within walking distance for me.

So:

Worth it:

Yoghurt, Tin tomatoes, Kidney beans, squash (sainsbury's squash does NOT have aspartane in it), carrots, cheddar, washing tablets.

Not:
Tuna, it IS like slurry, that's the perfect word for it, mushrooms, they go mouldy in about two days and there are a ton of them, skin products, but I do have ultra sensitive skin.

Also, someone said weetabix, can't be sure about the value brand, but sainsbury's normal own brand is EXACTLY the same as weetabix (checked the ingredients- identical) and precisely half the price. Also, they do 3 for a pound on almost all the tinned pulses they do- including the more unusual ones which retail for about 60p a tin.

I get own brand (sainsburys) on almost everything now and value versions of:

Cheese
Natural Yog
Baked beans (DH says Heinz too rich for his tummy)
Tinned tomatoes
Tinned spaghetti
Pasta
Rice
Smoked salmon offcuts

It's usually storecupboard basics that won't have anything added - sugar, fillers etc

I agree bout value weetabix - this was foul -own brand is same as branded
