I'm trying to keep my shopping costs down and have some random items in the freezer to use up. I love some ideas of what to use them for tea meals. I'm feeding a family of four

Smoked salmon bits
2 steaks
Vegan bacon
Sausages
Tofu
White fish

Homemade fishcakes
Toad in the hole
Bacon muffins
Don't you need to start chewing tofu on a Monday to finish it on a Friday?

Slice the steaks thinly and make crispy chilli beef or fajitas with it

All of the fish in a pie?

Tofu stir fry? Cut it into strips, marinate and cook.

Sausages and veggie bacon could be a breakfast for dinner?

Steaks and chips. Or steak baguettes?

Or did they need to do 6 main meals?

Smoked salmon bits - tagliatelle tossed in melted soft cheese with salmon trimmings
2 steaks - slice thinly in a beef and vegetable stir fry for 4
Vegan bacon - Spaghetti carbonara
Sausages - Sausage casserole/toad in the hole/sausage and mash
Tofu - not sure, I've never cooked with it
White fish - fish curry.

Stretching 2 steaks to 4 people means cutting them into strips and use to make either a stir fry of some sort (with vegetables and noodles or rice), fajitas/burritos (with onions, peppers, avocado, beans and sour cream) or maybe even a quick curry (I love beef massaman, I tend to buy the blue dragon kit when on offer).

Smoked salmon bits are good in risotto or pasta, paired with either peas, asparagus or courgettes. Add a little cream or cream cheese for the pasta option.

Sausages could also be used to make risotto (excellent paired with courgettes) or a added to a tomato based pasta sauce, if you don't have enough to make them the main part of a meal (alongside potatoes and vegetables).

White fish can be a little tasteless, depending on type and quality. Baking it with cherry tomatoes, black olives and oregano makes it lovely and tasty, and bulks it up a little too. It can be served with a side of roast potatoes, or just good quality toasted bread to mop up the juices.

White fish- pie with the salmon. Or a test bake. Or make breadcrumbs with the vegan bacon mixed into the crumbs.( Jamie recipe is fab for this)
Bacon carbanara.
Tofu curry. Or stir fry.
Sausage and bean casserole.
Steak-spread into a pie with mushrooms or a pasty type dish. Or a curry. Black bean Chinese dish.

Tofu needs to go in the bin and I am a vegetarian!

Salmon bits with scrambled eggs and bread/toast. We love breakfast themed dinners.
Steak in stroganoff sauce with mushrooms, served with mash, pasta or rice.

Vegan bacon - to go on /in pea soup

White fish - marinade in tikka powder/paste with yoghurt, or put in a coconutty curry

Whataretheodds · 25/01/2023 23:17

Sausage - traybake.

Sausages...Tuscan style pasta with sausage & tomatoes and any type of pasta.

White fish...Mediterranean style fish soup with tomatoes, courgette, grated carrot, onions etc
Or fish chowder with potatoes, peas, sweetcorn. Look up Cullen Skink recipe for basic idea.

Bacon...Spaghetti carbonara.

Steak... Slice into thin slivers and make beef stroganoff with added mushrooms, serve with rice or buttered noodles or tagliatelle.
Or cook, then slice thinly diagonally and serve in soft rolls with salad & pickles.

Tofu...Make an Asian style broth with mushrooms, peppers, broccoli florets and the tofu.
