Mayflower powder in a box makes up Chinese curry sauce?

This beef curry recipe looks very similar to one my granny used to make except she used chicken.

chicken thighs (I use 1kg bone in, can use 500g boneless)
1/2 jar pataks tikka paste
1 large onion finely chopped
2tsp cinnamon
Handful raisins
200g Greek yogurt

Pan fry chicken to brown and add onions. Add paste cook 1 minute, add remaining ingredients then cook 1 hour (bone in) 30 minutes boneless

That looks a lot like my Nanna's! She used lamb, it was cheap in Oz at the time. I'm so going to make this for memory's sake.

Brilliant website, will be lost on there for a while.

Flour, margarine, milk, curry powder. Reheat leftover chicken pieces in this sauce, adding more turmeric if it's not yellow enough. Add sultanas, serve in the middle of a bed of soggy overcooked rice, and garnish with tinned mandarin segments.

@BlackForestCake Loving "add more turmeric if it's not yellow enough" 😂

I lashed out on a half-price 5gm box of real saffron threads to put in rice- I was so sparing with it that it wasn't yellow enough!

I know you ! DH & I were given this at a "dinner party" in 1988 !

Have you still got the good bottle of red we brought, that was whisked away & never seen again ?

Homepride curry sauce in a tin is what's required here.

Savemesome · 24/01/2023 21:04

🤣 thanks everyone some options there!

I remember Homepride sauces, my mum thought they were posh and used them when we had guests round! On reflection they may genuinely have been posh in rural Wiltshire in the 70s!

BustaGrind · 25/01/2023 09:03

Yep, you're describing homepride curry sauce.
