Roast beef!!

Hi all,

I am cooking a roast dinner at the weekend and doing beef.

We never eat roast beef in our house, only ever chicken or gammon (boring I know).

I have no idea what joint to buy or how big. It is for 5 people and would be a bonus if any left over for sandwiches.

Also, how do I cook it? I hate tough meat so I am assuming slowly?

Thanks

Thank you all for the comments, really really appreciated!

dp is saying, he is going to sear the meat, then put in the oven for an hour and ten minutes at 170c, covered in foil. Will rest for 30 minutes in top oven covered in foil.

will this be okay?!

thanks

Hi all,

I thought I would give an update on how it went.

Bless dp, he really did a great job. All veg cooked perfectly, all roasties, parsnips, stuffing cooked perfectly. Yorkshire puddings huge and lovely, gravy lovely. All served in the ‘special serving bowls’ (that only really comes out for Christmas).

He even remembered to warm the plates!

The beef was good and I did enjoy it, but it was overcooked so rather tough. He seared it then cooked for 1 hour ten minutes on 170. If we ever have it again we will take it out well before.

i really enjoyed it all, wasn’t allowed in the kitchen at all, only to make cheese sauce, but he put cauliflower cheese together etc.

Wasnt allowed back in kitchen until all washing up was done and kitchen cleaned with zoflora.

Was a great day!! 😁

Why did you ask or advice on how to cook the meat then do what you want and cook at a higher temp and for longer than recommended?

Weird. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it.

The other mistake was putting it in the top oven with the foil wrapped round it…….this means it was still cooking and also not a good idea if that oven was already hot from previous cooking!
