Anyone tried lollipop app

ive just discovered this today and seems a no brainer for me. Seems to be a little like Gousto but with a wider choice, the opportunity to not get ingredients that I already have. Only links in with Sainsbury’s at present and says it’s going to link with more supermarkets. Makes shopping and meal planning so easy! Anyone tried it?

I had a look at it, what put me off is that the meals they claimed were vegan actually used packets of sauce with milk in 😵‍💫 not great. But the concept is good.

Alakazam8 · 09/01/2023 09:07

That’s a shame but I thought at least with this there’s the ability to swap or drop ingredients you don’t want/need. I will see how well it works when we get our first delivery and try the recipes out… most are from bbc good food so should be ok.

Yes, I use it and love it.

I can do a meal plan and a weekly shop in about 20 minutes.

When I first started using it, there weren't enough recipes on there, but they seem to have upped the number recently, and particularly there are more sensible everyday dinner recipes since the collaboration with BBC good food. I have set up some of my own recipes too. It is like Gusto or similar, without the waste, packaging and much cheaper. I really like the way you can sub out ingredients in the recipes if you want to suit your budget.

I think it's brilliant. I hope it stays free! The link with Sainsbury's works for me, as I use them anyway for online shops.

Alakazam8 · 10/01/2023 09:19

Those were my thoughts @mrsm43s I definitely won’t be going back to Gousto! I think it will save so much time and love that you can take ingredients out if you’ve already got them/don’t like them which you can’t with Gousto. Going to add a couple of recipes of my own each week until I’ve got a months worth…

@Alakazam8 Thank you so much for posting! I think this is exactly what I was looking for, but didn’t know it! I have been growing increasingly frustrated with meal delivery boxes, but I definitely need something to help my adhd brain with family meal planning.

Alakazam8 · 10/01/2023 11:23

@ShadowoftheFall yes it seems like it is similar to Gousto without the limitations and I suppose you could add your Gousto recipes in the mix too if you wanted. I think it’s brill but it’s early days in my use of the app so wanted to know how it goes after you’ve used it for a bit. Hope it continues as I don’t want to change back!

I've been using it since August, and it's still working really well for me. There was definitely a point where I felt that I was running out of choices without repetition, but since then quite a lot of new recipes seem to have been added, plus I've invested some time into setting up my own, so I'm on a roll again!

I used to use Pinterest to save recipes I liked the look of, and use that as the basis of my meal plan, but Lollipop is much slicker and time saving than doing it manually. As and when I fancy one of my "old" recipes from Pinterest, I invest the time into setting it up in Lollipop so it's there for the future. I've even set up really daft things like fishcakes, chips and peas or cheesy beans on chunky toast, because that way I can add them in the shopping with a simple click. The more I use it and the more I set my own recipes up, the easier it becomes to use.

Honestly, it's one of my favourite websites of all time. It saves me so much time and headspace. I actively enjoy choosing my recipes and meal planning, when it had become a bit of a chore.

Alakazam8 · 10/01/2023 20:53

Thats exactly what I was hoping to hear. Great that you’ve been using it since August @mrsm43s

I take back what I said about Lollipop. Looks like they have really upped their game in terms of vegan recipes. I'm really impressed!

tiramisualwaystiramisu · 15/01/2023 17:46

I got paid to try it a while ago. It would only work with Sainsbury's which isn't my supermarket of choice but I did really like the recipes and the way it linked to online shopping. You've tempted me to go back and have a look if they've improved things

Whazzzat · 23/01/2023 22:24

Thank you, I didn't know this existed and I'm very excited to try it!

Just2MoreSeasons · 14/03/2023 12:31

Resurrected this thread now a) I've seen it and b) you all may have had a chance to try it? Anyone have any thoughts on it- good or bad?
I'm trying to low carb and eat no processed food so hoping for meal planning help that will
Also feed the kiddos.

TinaTotal · 20/03/2023 20:21

I've just found Lollipop and I've done about three deliveries so far.

I like that you can do more portions than 4 which you're limited to with Gousto, I was always buying extra stuff to bulk out Gousto boxes as we a family of 6.

The portion sizes are now massive compared to what i was cooking before!

I like that I can change ingredients (I like the expensive chopped tomatoes but haven't got a freezer at the moment so I can swap frozen peas for tinned or fresh etc) a as I'd not have to buy things I've already got in the cupboard.

What is everyone's fave meal so far?

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 20/03/2023 20:29

I love it. I tried it as a MN product test and then kept using it.
I've tried Gousto, Hello Fresh and Simply Cook. Lollipop is the best by far.

I'm also a "lollipop pioneer' so in a WhatsApp group where we can give feedback which they really listen to.

I'm trying to eat low carb, there are some low carb recipes on there. Some of which aren't overly low, and some recipes which aren't in the low carb section are low carb. But they have the nutritional info on so you can check.

soffa · 20/03/2023 20:48

OMG, this has been missing from my life!

MarnieCres · 04/06/2023 18:29

First use today, DP and I are sharing an account on our devices so that both of us can meal plan and shop.

Like that I can search ingredients I already have so reducing waste.

Tea tonight was the satay chicken salad. Really good.

Hello, does anyone know if you can use a Sainsburys delivery pass with Lollipop? I was going to sign up for one but theres no point if the Lollipop ap doesn't pick up on it. I have Googled of course, but neither Sainsburys nor Lollipop have it in their faqs! Thanks in advance!

Yes you can.

PeanutButter82 · 28/06/2023 16:29

@imnotwhoyouthinkiam thank you very much!
For anyone else wondering, I just signed up to the delivery pass and when I checked out my order on Lollipop the delivery charge showed as £0.

WCrugrats · 13/11/2023 10:17

I have just discovered this. I have looked at the app and it seems brilliant. I have coeliac disease so follow a gluten free diet. I put that in and it asked if I only wanted to see gluten free recipes. I said no and was delighted when I could click on a recipe and swap an ingredient that contains gluten with one that doesn't, such as gluten free pasta. By doing this I have a much bigger range of recipes to choose from. When i had gousto boxes I had to buy gluten free items extra in my weekly shop. I haven't tried ordering anything yet but the app looks fantastic. The only thing I can't seem to do is having marked recipes that I want to try with the flag (which I am assuming is for favourites) I don't seem to be able to view those recipes that have been selected seperate from all the recipes. Anyone know how to do this?

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 13/11/2023 10:53

@WCrugrats when you're on the 'plan' page on the app there's a tab at the top that says 'saved'. They should be there.

HarpQuartet · 13/11/2023 11:19

I'm a fan too, everything I've made has been tasty (chicken arrabiata with parmesan dumplings yesterday) and I'm sure it saves money, I often have to think of what to add to my list to reach the minimum spend (wine often helps!). It will be even better when they team up with Asda, Tesco etc which I hope they're working on.

I know they were hoping to partner with Asda ages ago. I'll see where they're at with it. (I'm a "pioneer" so have WhatsApp contact)
