Party food ideas DD’s birthday

Ostryga · 06/01/2023 19:18

Dd is 6 next week and I’m having the family over (no other children) for lunch/afternoon on Saturday.

I’m bored to death of finger sandwiches and buffet food and I can’t think of anything. Any fab ideas floating around?

Tapas style food?

Does ds have a favourite cuisine? I'd work from there.

Yes it’s McDonald’s and ham sandwiches 😂

A pot of chilli or curry in a slow cooker to keep warm with all the appropriate sides. Chilli-rice, salsa, sour cream, grated cheese, wraps/tacos. Curry/Dahl-rice, mango chutney, lime wedges, yogurt/raita, flat breads/popadoms, pineapple or mango salsa if you really want to impress (pineapple or mango-diced really small, red onion diced really small-put in a sieve and pour boiling water over it, coriander, lime juice +/- chilli) . Bowls piled up beside it so people can help themselves. All but curry/chilli and rice can be cold. Can dispense with rice if needs be and serve nice bread. Make it veggie to suit everyone (have recipes if you need them).

Pizza slices, wedges, salads. Can't go wrong!

If you want to go easy you could do some hot dogs? To make it even easier you could even do them in the slow cooker & then they are stay warm for whenever someone fancy’s one? Whip up some fried onion & put a few other nibbles out - job done.

Or as a pp said make a big chilli & serve either jacket pots or rice with it.
