This is no good now isn't it?

Had the slow cooker on all day yesterday cooking beef in gravy for a pie. Ended up having Xmas drinks out, came home and turned it off. I'm now awake on the middle of the night and I have realised it's still in the slow cooker - we didn't even let it cool to put in the fridge. My kitchen is very cold but it's no good now is it to eat?

Beef should be ok, I would be worried if it was chicken but beef don't worry.

Flaunch · 24/12/2022 04:28

I’d eat it no problem at all. just make sure to thoroughly heat it up before you serve it.

Whatstherecipe · 24/12/2022 04:30

i have left things out in the cold kitchen overnight many times, just like a larder in the old days. Beef will be fine.

HirplesWithHaggis · 24/12/2022 04:30

It'll be fine.

Habibtihayatiii · 24/12/2022 04:31

Another one here who'd happily eat it the next day. Just make sure to heat it to piping hot all through for a good few minutes and you'll be grand. If it's bothering you, can you nip down and pop it in the fridge now?

catfunk · 24/12/2022 04:48

I wouldn 't hesitate to eat it

PetitPetitPois · 24/12/2022 04:57

I was going to say same, but so close to Christmas I’m not sure I would. Literally any other day of the year though

Highlyflavouredgravy · 24/12/2022 05:00

It will be absolutely fine..

Ilovehamandtoast · 24/12/2022 05:01

I'd go down now, put it in a tub.
Put the tin in a plastic bag and put it outside. (assuming it's warmish and can't go straight in the fridge)

bert3400 · 24/12/2022 05:01

I would eat it ...beef will be fine as long as it's piping hot when reheated

Highlyflavouredgravy · 24/12/2022 06:01

Lol. This thread has prompted me to get up and putvthe beef in red wine that i had in a pot on the stove. Into a tub in the fridge!

MagnoliaMix · 24/12/2022 06:07

Eh? I often leave food out overnight to cool and 'develop ' the flavour. Wouldn't dream of throwing the beef out.

Hollyhead · 24/12/2022 06:23

Yeah it will be fine just make sure it’s reheated well.

devildeepbluesea · 24/12/2022 06:24

Of course it’s fine.

fruitypancake · 24/12/2022 06:26

Absolutely fine , you'd be mad not to eat it

This is how I'm feeling about it, I went back to sleep so it's still sitting there in the slow cooker.

I'm relived to hear you all saying eat it, it was slow cooked for about 12 hours and smells beautiful. DH and I ended up having a Christmas drink that meant neither of us wanted to cook!

Should be fine. I often leave things on the side to cool in winter so I am not putting something hot in the fridge. Would be different in summer if it was out in heat all night, but then you don't really do hearty stews in summer anyway.

FashionDoggy · 24/12/2022 15:56

Well, it went in the fridge for part of the day but it's now on the stove being heated through for a pie!

I actively want that pie!

It does smell divine!
It was slow cooked for that long yesterday that the beef is just falling to pieces.

It sounds amazing but surely pie is next Sunday?

Well it was meant to be last nights dinner. Christmas Eve is usually a McDonald's!
We rarely have a homemade meat pie so it is a treat I guess.
