Where can I buy German smoked sausages?

The kind they cook over the coals at the Christmas markets. I love them! My mother who lived in a different country used to cook these for us all the time, but I just don't know where to find them here. I'm not talking about the white Bratwurst type, but the big smokey sausages.

Someone please tell me where I can buy these! Will Polish shops carry them? I know they're German, but I don't know if any German shops anywhere near me

I was intrigued by this, Prim, so took a look at one of the German shops in London and found Mettenden or Mettwurst. I think that could well be what you mean. They do delivery so it might be worthwhile for you to order a few packs at a time.

I'm not a big fan of Mettwurst myself, prefer a traditional Thueringer Bratwurst at the markets and Nuernburger at home. A Mettwurst is the sausage you would normally eat with Gruenkohl (a kind of dark green cabbage that is only eaten in deepest winter because it needs overnight frost before it can be harvested). In the German markets the Gruenkohl would be cooked on a massive round frying pan, about a metre in diameter. Do you have that in the British markets too?

Lidl sell the fat German sausages. We grill them for the smokey flavour and put them in a fresh baguette.

Sausageman- have a look online. They deliver and are amazing. They do all the condiments, pretzels, sweet items. Reasonably priced too.

Polish shops around here sell them.

May I just add that Gruenkohl as mentioned by a PP is actually Kale.

Polish shops are probably a good bet.
