I have a challenge for you...

We're currently extending and don't have a kitchen. We have a double drawer air fryer, a microwave and a small slow cooker to work with.

I've got friends coming round for NYE. I've been very clear to specify that I won't be serving a meal, but will just have some nibbles out.

There will be 6 of us. One guest is gluten intolerant and one is nut free. Two don't like seafood. (So seafood platter or cheeseboard and crackers are both out).

I'd like to do something nicer than just bowls of crisps! Needs to be something straight out of a packet or needing minimal prep given our lack of kitchen. I guess I'm thinking of something that could be beautifully arranged to look special. Gluten free particularly is giving me a bit of a headache as most out of the packet stuff tends to have gluten in it!

Can you think of anything that would work?

Serrano ham wrapped around red or black grapes and secured with a toothpick
Chicken tikka bites - get a gluten-free tandoori spice mix, marinate chicken cubes in it for a few hours, cook in air fryer, serve on cocktail sticks with a cherry tomato and a cucumber/mint raita for dipping
Mini baked potatoes with cream cheese and chives

Ooh, thank you!

Chips in airfryer
Nairn's gluten-free rosemary flatbreads are good - find them in the free from section of all supermarkets so you can do cheese, crackers, grapes etc
Hummus & crudités
Italian deli meats
Honey & sesame seed cocktail sausages in airfryer

What about a ham, done in slow cooker and finished in air fryer, baked camembert can be done in airfryer, coleslaw, crusty rolls, roast new potatoes, a lovely cheese board.

Imtoooldforallthis · 16/12/2022 15:06

Oops missed the bit about cheese.

Spicy chicken wings.

Gluten free crackers are easy to come by, gluten free party food less easy, but have a search online in different supermarket free from sections and you'll definitely find some stuff (I'm coeliac - there's a lot of GF out there if you know where to look)

FurAndFeathers · 16/12/2022 15:09

Why can’t you get gf crackers for cheese?

Aquamarine1029 · 16/12/2022 15:10

You could make a gorgeous beef stew in the slow cooker.

Those Nairn's rosemary flatbreads are delish! I'm gluten- free and they've been a bit of a go to for me since they came out.
What about a nice soup that you can warm up in the microwave as a starter? Nothing better in the cold weather and lots of soup in tubs is gluten-free.

Some lovely ideas, thank you.

I could indeed have GF crackers with the cheese, nice to see some tasty ones suggested.

Lots of suggestions for using the air-fryer - will have to whittle the choices down a bit so that it fits in (and there's only 6 of us!).

Everyone's suggestions have been so useful. I was beginning to think it would be sad little bowls of crisps!
